dvd ws???

Post by GeorgeW »

add up the total running time for all your source, then plug it into the following bitrate calculator to see what your encoding bitrates should be for a dvd5 (or custom size) disc.
http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

you then need to adjust your project properties based on the calulated bitrates. They might all fit, but depending on how many minutes, you would have to use a very low bitrate (which might not look too good).

if you have a dual-layer burner, then you would have more room to work with...

Hi where do i change the setting after calculating the bitrate which i'm not sure how to do i read the instruction but i don't get how to us the calculator properly.

Anway do i have to change it in the video data rate? under the compression section which is under project properties.

yes

yes, project properties, then use the disc template manager to create a new template for your project. modify the bitrates accordingly -- use Dolby Digital audio (AC3) -- it will give you more room for your video because it is more compressed than lpcm audio.

still too many gb.

Post by k2005 »

I've changed the setting by setting up a new template, then i wrote video rate 9053 which is what i'm getting on my calculator but its still coming up to loads of gb.

I suppose your wondering where i'm getting the rate of how many gb it takes up. When i add each video in the 'EDIT' section next to the project name it goes up in space. And i'm still getting like 11 gb.

why is that still happening i tried to lower the video rate to 600 but it says i can't go that low.

pls reply thanks heaps

no, actually I am wondering where you are getting 9053 as your calculated bitrate. What calculator are you using, and how many minutes are your total videos (combined)???

Use Dolby digital audio (or mpeg audio for PAL discs). LPCM audio will eat up alot of space.

remember to ADD ALL YOUR VIDEOS TOGETHER.

if you have 5 videos that are 3 minutes each, then you use 15 minutes in the bitrate calculator.

Biterate calculator

Post by k2005 »

HI i'm getting 9053 from from the bit calculator
, i'm using the calculator you sent as a link to me i'm not sure how to use it , i go to write a figure in the calculator

This is my calculation i'm not sue where i'm going wrong.

video length: 1
hour: 2
mins:120
dvds 1 x 4.37(dvd5) gb
Audio bit: 224 kbs
calculator biterate: 9301
dvd max biterate: 9570

then i took the '9301' and typed it in the disc template under
high quality (dolby digital Ac-3 audio) in the video data rate. and the sound to dolby digital audio.

And yet still the size comes up to 12gb.

how long is it???

Post by GeorgeW »

in your example, you are saying 1 hour, 2 minutes, 120 seconds.

Is that how long all of your videos are (combined)?

on the finish page you can create output templates (click on the picture of a disc up at the top). Create one with the lowered bitrate.

Hi,
yes around that each music video must be atleast 2 to 3 minutes long and there are 55 videos.

i've recalculated and i think i got the right rate '2311' i now created a new template and typed that figure in 1777 because the '2311' was still coming up to 11.6gb so i typed the lowest and one which can't go any lower and i'm still getting 11.6gb
video date rate. 1777 (variable)
audio setting :dolby digital audio.
speed quality:80
frame: 720 x 576

why am i still getting 11.5gb?
pls help
thanks for all ur replies.

Update Patches Applied???

Post by GeorgeW »

Have you applied all the update patches from Ulead's support pages?

I recommend you try a small test. Create a test project that only has about 5 of your videos. Use the bitrate you intend to use in the bigger project, and make a note of the reported size requirement. Then burn the DVD Folders to your hard drive. After it is done, check how large the VIDEO_TS folder is (the one that will be created when you burn the DVD Folders to your hard drive).

Another thought, are all your source videos divx? can some of them be .mpg videos? If so, they might already be compliant, and so you would have to tell DVD WS 2.x to compress them to your project properties. This is done in the EDIT step, under the VIDEO and AUDIO tabs -- put a check box in the "Convert to disc template" option for the video and audio. If that box is grayed out, then DVD WS 2.x will convert them to your project properties because they are non-compliant for your project.

Hi i'm doing the test now after its done i'll tell you the result. I haven't applied any update patches because i thought there only done if you get a problem.

You asked if all my files are dvix , none of them are, they r all mpeg-2 files. I did begin with dvix because all the files together were 3gb, but when the file sizes were imported in dvdws they were bigger than the mpeg ones, so then i decided to go for the mpeg ones, I don't understand why the avi dvix ones where so big when imported. So i've used the mpeg-2 files. I've already checked the VIDEO and AUDIO tabs box to convert template.

the test is being done i'll get back to you with the results shortyl.
thanks,
best wishes
K

and that is my point. I have been reading the thread. The fact that, as above, you state you have a problem, yet, in your previous statement you had not installed the updates because you thought they were only needed if you had a problem. You have a problem; therefore, update. It may fix it and it may not, but the fact that no one else has seen this problem implies some uniqueness to your system. A likely cause is that everyone else has updated.

In general, if there is an update, you should apply it.
