Mp4 files FAIL to be imported into VS 12

With youtube hosting High Quality files (what a boon) i have downloaded some of them which are in mp4 format. On checking with G-Spot (what a name!) i find that they are cmpressed usingf H 264 codec. These mp4 files fail to be imported ito my project or into library manager causing a CRASH and CLOSE of VS 12.
What could be the issue here??
a) VS 12 does not support mp4?
b) Do i need to install a codec pack like K-Lite or does VS 12 natively support decoding of mp4 files? I did install a mega K-Lite codec pack but it did not solve the problem
DirectX is updated!
Please help out if posoble

First thing I would do is un-install that K-lite codec pack. Those tend to produce more problems than good. Hopefully installing it did not replace any good codecs you may have had on your system.
While VS Pro X2 is suppose to allow editing of MPEG-4 video files, I certainly would not count on it 100%. These files are meant for distribution, viewing over the internet, not for editing. They are highly compressed, and being so, are very difficult for editing programs to deal with.
I've yet to download any files from YouTube. However I may try to find one of these "MPEG-4" downloads and see if it crashes mine. I don't install any of these codec packs. If I need a codec that is not installed, ie; DivX or Xvid, I'll install it, not a whole myriad of codecs. It's just too risky...
After you remove the codec pack, you might want to re-install VS, so that it will replace any nonsense codecs installed or broken by the codec pack...

I found a video file on YouTube, and used the "kickyoutube" to download it in mp4 format. However VS Pro crashed when I tried to insert it.
So I then ran the file through
SUPER. which can convert DivX, Xvid or even MPEG4 files. I did not convert it to any other file type, just used the default settings for mp4. I then was able to insert the file produced by Super into VS, which still was an mp4 file.
I will state that the file produced by super was double the size of the original..
