Not sure how to explain this. I used to use Vegas6(consumer not the real Vegas 6) and when you grabbed the trim handle in the clip (video track) at a cut or insertion point, you would preview where you were in the cut (shortening) the clip as you slid the handle left or right.

When I try that in X2 I can't see where I am. It just has the same frame captured until I let go of the mouse button. I can use the trim bar in the preview area. But then I have to cut and delete that clip section. Not bad but an extra step.

Is there a way to do this?

If I read you correctly you can do the same in VS.

With the video in the timeline make sure you are in project view (rather than Clip view)

Click on the video (within the timeline). Yellow handle bars will appear on each end. You can grab those yellow handle bars with the mouse and trim that way.

Use the zoom slider for finer selection.

Personally I prefer to do this in Clip view and use the trim handles under the Preview pane and I can trim down to a frame. I then drag that selection to the library or straight to the timeline (the original video file remains intact of course)

Since you can only see 1-frame and then probably followed by the file name, in your Preferences settings, (File menu>Preferences or hit F6 on your keyboard) the Clip Display Mode is set to Thumbnail and file name. You need to change this to Thumbnail only. That way when you zoom in on the timeline to Frame, you will be able to see the exact frame you're cutting to...

Thanks. That's pretty close to what I was used to. I will just have to play with it some more to get comfortable with how to trim and edit. Any best practices/tutorials on this forum or other places?
