Starting the Sound Before The Video?

How can you start the sound from a clip but leave the screen black and slowly fade in the video from the clip. Sort of like a dramatic entrance that you might see in a movie. While the opening title scenes are playing the sound starts playing for maybe 10 seconds before the video portion comes in.

What you're referring to is called a
J-cut. Doing the same at the end would be called an
L-cut. A tutorial was written for this technique using VS9. The same still works with the more current versions...

Hi
Using the ¡¥overlay track¡¦ you can insert a colour clip from the library.
Set the duration for 10 seconds
With the clip selected , right click the preview screen and select ¡¥fit to screen¡¦
The top track will be covered in black.
Using the fade out option will fade the black to reveal the top track.
The fade defaults to 1/3 of the length of the clip.
