1. I am using VideoStudio 11 (or 11.5) to edit HD movies and then I have to export them to QT with Photo JPEG compression with 50% quality. I had no problem to find the appropriate menus, however, the "QUALITY" selector is dimmed and does not work. See attched picture. . How can I make the requested movies? How can I make the "QUALITY" selector work?

You've picked Photo Jpeg and of course you want a video compression


for QT (quick time .mov or .qt)

Chage the selection of compression to: mpeg4

Then slide it to 50%

I agree with Clevo, you need to use a video compression (codec). In VS for the QT/*.mov format you have the following available codecs. Those highlighted are the only codecs you're permitted to adjust the quality slider...

No the AVCHD codec is supplied with the .5 + version of VS 11. You should have updated and upgraded your VS 11.0 Plus in order to have the AVCHD codec. It is not supplied by MicroSoft...

1. My buyer insists on QT with Photo Jpeg 50% quality. I cannot use MP4. This is very sad, because if I want to keep selling to this buyer I have to export to uncompressed AVI, then I have to convert the AVI to the required parameters in Quicktime Pro. That takes a lot of time and a lot of space. There also seem to be a loss of sharpness.

2. How do I verify which version of VideoStudio I have? I believe I bought 11.5+ but the flash screen says 11.

In VS click on the ? and select About Ulead VideoStudio. It should show the version as Ulead VideoStudio 11.5.0157.2 Plus.

But when I bought the software the text on the site said that at that time there was AVCHD driver for vista only. How do I verify that I have the driver for Windows XP now?

Any chance you will have QT Photo JPEG with variable qualities?

Also, I have registered the software on the site, but VideoStudio is asking me from time to time to register... What seems to be the problem?

I would suspect that the AVCHD installed by VS works with XP too. I don't use this so I'm not 100% sure..

Variable quality for Photo JPEG is not possible with VS. Why is your client so adamant about using this specific codec? For VS is not one of the better to use. Blacklab clued me in on the Sorenson 3 codec when rendering *.mov files.

If you've already registered the software you're only option is to ignore that repeated nag. Anytime you reinstall one of Corel/Ulead's programs, you get that nag screen. There should be a small tick-box on that screen that reads something like "never show this message again", check it, and close the screen. That should stop it.

I am also mystified by the insistence on Photo JPEG format for a video... Are you absolutely sure that your client is not after the Motion JPEG format (MJPEG) which is the video equivalent? It is an older but good quality format which preceded the DV/AVI format. It does not come natively with any editing program of which I am aware, but would have to be installed separately.

The client will take MJPEG, but again, at 50% quality. Here again, VideoStudio does not provide a solution, from the same reason.

Yes, However if I have to go via AVI, I will lose more sharpness.
