just got ulead's media studio pro the other day, installed it, etc, and now i'm trying to use it. i have a vaio t-250 running xp and a sony dcr-pc55/w handycam. took some footage with the video camera then hooked it to the laptop (firewire) and used dvgate software (came installed on vaio) to get the video on to the laptop, everything is fine. imagine you can suck video in with the ulead software too but prefer dv gate because it automatically rewinds the tape and re-reads to pick up lost frames, important i imagine on this laptop since it's a laptop. anyway, video comes in fine, plays fine in windows media player, etc, very much beauty and contentment.
then bring up media studio pro and click "insert video", fine, pick the file and it loads in and i drop it on the timeline. now the trouble begins. the video plays fine in the right hand window, that's the "source" video window, no troubles. however, the video thumbnails on the timeline are showing garbage, like blocky noise, you know, like where the first frame is displayed on the timeline and the last frame is displayed on the end. then i click the right arrow (play) on the preview window, it renders, and all i get it blocky pink and yellow garbage. the sound is fine, the video is crap.
called ulead, no help there. they suggested i turn off the options that basically make the software render before it's previewed, that didn't do anything except make it show garbage faster than it otherwise would have. anybody got any ideas on this ? i really liked ulead when i originally got a copy with my dv rex hardware years ago, and the price is right (compared to adobe premiere), so i'd rather not return it and get my money back. but then again the product does have to let me edit video.
any advice/thoughts, criticism, etc, is terrific. but USEFUL HELP is warmly appreciated!
jeff.
p.s. i don't see any way here to upload a screenshot to demonstrate the trouble, am i just not seeing it ?
