Lasso tool won't select to edge of image

Post by kingtech »

I am using PhotoImpact 12 for a couple of years now after having used PhotoImpact 8 for several years. I have always wondered why the lasso tool won't select all the way to the edge of an image in v12 when it used to in 8, but now I have a project that I really need it to do this. Is there a way to make it select to the edge in v12?

I would suspect you're using the Smart Lasso. The minimum pixel area for the Smart Lasso is 30, so I think that it is ignoring the edges of the image, thinking you do not want that part, but the area inside.

To select edges of an image untick the box beside Smart Lasso..

I had actually already considered that and found Smart Lasso is unchecked.

More info: the amount of space the lasso tool is leaving between the edge of the image and its selection is exactly 1 pixel.

I see what you mean by not selecting completely to the edges. I had to zoom in to about 400% to really see this. However as a workaround, after making a selection, you can use the Edit Path Object to move the selection area in question to the edge..

Weird isn't it? And it doesn't make any sense. Thank you for your input which is quicker than my workaround, which was to just expand the image canvas by 1 pixel then make my selection with the lasso tool.

Smart lasso ticked. When you've completed lassoing, use the small purple nodules to pull in or push out.

There's also another way my choosing Object, Extract object.
