The burner is busy for another application[534:-2147216300:0

Post by paintx »

Projects do not finish burning to DVD. After I have finished editing my video I try to create disc using DVD format. Project completes video rendering but doesn¡¦t complete writing to disc. It stops half way. Then a message pops up saying ¡§The burner is busy for another application.¡¨ I press ok and another message comes up: ¡§The drive is busy or is being used by other applications. Please make sure the drive is ready, close all applications that may be using the drive (including folder windows), and try again. [534:-2147216300:0]¡¨

Drive: External drive Samsung SE-S204S USB CDDVDW

Video Studio 11 Plus

I have made sure no applications are open and the drive works fine with other software.

I have included Print Screen shots of when I encounter the problem.

Please help. I don¡¦t understand what other software or conflict that is giving me this problem.

If you have Nero InCD module installed as part of the Nero suite, or a similar module in Roxio Easy DVD Creator suite -- or indeed any other 'packet writing' software similar to it -- they often take control of the burner and deny it to other programs such as Video Studio. If you have InCD (it shows as a separate program in Control Panel > [Add/Remove] Programs), it has to be uninstalled. If you have Roxio, then I can't recall the name of the module, but it at least can be internally switched off so you don't have to uninstall it.

The only other thing I can think of which might be a problem is that your external burner connection might be via Firewire. Sometimes, but only sometimes and with some computers, this connection will fail or return messages -- though I have to add that I have never heard of it returning this particular message in that situation...

Without a whole lot more information about your pc, it's hard to pin down the cause.

Since you say that you can successfully burn discs with other programs, however, you may have an easy solution.

Output your project to either DVD folders or an ISO file instead of trying to have VS burn it to the disc.

Then use your favourite burning software to burn the folders or ISO file to the disc.

The freeware program IMGburn is very compact, and very good for burning discs from ISO files.

Since your burner is an external USB unit, I would suggest you limit the maximum burn speed to 8x.

I had the exact same message as the OP's first screenshot. Of course Ulead's official FAQ, since MF4 days of yore, says to download the latest update (which I suppose is usually pretty good advice), but what fixed it for me was to look for and uninstall packet-writing software of the ilk that Ken and sjj so helpfully refer to.

In my case, I narrowed it down to something that unbeknownst to me installs along with Magix Video Deluxe 17 Premium, something I found in my Control Panel program uninstall list called "Magix Speed." Thought I'd post it here to add to the list of culprits graciously provided by the gentlemen above, if it can help someone facing a similar conundrum.

Thanks. Useful information, particularly because there are a few users -- including some of us moderators and admin -- who have bought Magix as well... I personally had never been aware of the packet writing software which came with it...
