Alludo USER to USER Web Board

I have a DVD recorder, recorded about 60% of the DVD, finalized it, tried to import it in VS11.5+, but it freezes at 58% and won't import everything.

I'm thinking that maybe not recording anything on the remaining 40% has something to do with it........any way I can get past this?

I have the .vob files on the dvd........any way to use them?

I tried importing a .vob file in Windows Movie Maker and it worked without issue......I wish there was an update to VS to support something as basic as opening a .vob file which WMM can apparently do but not VS.

Editing is much easier/precise in VS but whenever some file doesn't work or is choppy, etc. in VS, it seems to work in WMM.

It should work for you because It's worked for me...

Perhaps if you explained the process you are going through we might catch a step where you are going wrong.

I use a combo PVR DVD recorder and VS imports from these DVD's with no problems

For me it's always been... capture/import dvd

I then click on the squares that correspond to the title I want to import, this is on the pop-up with the list of conten and VS looks after everything, usually imprting without any problems.

Make sure your dvd doesn't have any smudge marks or scrtaches.

If it still fails...import in WMM then export it to a file then edit with VS. Most here use different packages to capture with

I have never used it...

You might try simply copying the whole contents of the DVD to a folder on your pc. If you have trouble doing that, it suggests a disc problem.

(Some DVD recorders give fairly marginal burn quality, especially if you're using a well-used DVD-RW disc. Some DVD burners are also better at reading discs than others.)

You should then try importing the footage with VS from that folder.

I have used VS 11.5 to successfully import from many DVD's, including ones recorded on a DVD recorder hooked up to a TV.

I tried copying the folder Video_ts to my hdd, opened VS and imported from the folder and got this error:

Failed to read DVD information.
Report ID: 0x800040901(2305)

It read very fast but it looked like it stopped at 58% again and went to the error message.

Maybe I'll try recording onto the entire disk and importing again.

Are you using re-writable discs? If so you might try another disc. It could be a problem with the disc itself, however I think you would not have been able to copy/paste it onto your harddrive.

Yes they're DVD-RW disks. I actually found a pretty usable solution:

I downloaded a utility called FixVTS referenced on another topic in this forum.

Then I ran the VIDEO_TS folder through FixVTS which took a little while but put all the files in order. This left a FixVTSBackup folder in the VIDEO_TS folder but it didn't affect import later on.

Next, I imported from DVD folder, selecting the same VIDEO_TS folder which had now been "fixed" and it imported correctly.

The deleted or empty sections of the DVD give the same error above if they're clicked in the import window but at least the program keeps running.


It's not perfect but it's the best solution I've found so far.
