Inserting MPEG files

Post by garywood84 »

I have recently bought a new TV card, a Hauppauge WinTV Nova-S Plus. The video files it records from satellite TV are in "DVD MPEG 2048 bytes" format, which Hauppauge calls native MPEG format.

When I try to insert these into Videostudio (X2 or 11) to edit them, Videostudio takes ages to insert them and then, when it has, if I view the file properties from in VS, it says the bitrate is 0 kbps, which, of course, can't be the case.

If I try to edit the video, say to set the start point to the beginning of the recorded programme, and cut off any overrun at the end, it works, but then when I output to video or create a DVD, it reencodes the entire file, when the format is already supposed to be DVD compatible.

Can anyone suggest any way around this?

Thanks,

Gary

It will re-encode the video if the clip properties and the project properties are different, no matter if the clips are "DVD compatible". Also, SmartRender must be turned on (it is by default).

Thanks, Jeff.

I realise that the clip and project properties have to be the same to prevent VS from re-encoding. However, I can't get the project properties to match the video because for some reason VS "thinks" that the video bitrate is 0kbps, and, of course, I can't make a project at that bit rate!
