Lighten picture,clipart text.

Post by justpix »

Some years ago someone asked me to make them some printable stationery that had the faded picture of their dog. For the life I me I can't remember what I did.
Seems like it was something to do with putting white over it or something. I thought it would be easier with this new fangled software.....lol.......and maybe it is...I just don't know how.
All I am talking about is something you would be able to type over but yet see the picture......like fog.......

Thank You

One way to do this is:
  1. Using the rectangle shape tool, drag out a shape over your image.
  2. Change the color of your shape to a light-gray or white.
  3. Go to the Layers Palette, and drop the opacity down to about 55-60%.
  4. You can also change the Merge to something like Multiply, Soft-light, or whatever works for you.
  5. OR instead of placing a rectangle above your image, just lower the opacity of it. When it is merged or flattened it will have the same appearance as if you had.

And so fast
You helped me solve 2 things at once.
I can do a letter with a picture of something in the background and still read the text and.......
A friend that had some line art that she wanted to do about the same thing for their church news letter. But it didn't look right I just wanted to lighten the lines so I went to Layers, New Adjustment Layer, Hue/Saturation Lighten
And that lightened those lines right Up so I am thinking if I save them for her she should be able to layer it on a white background and or in her word processer and type away.....
Thanks again......

Same image saved as a png...
Image

Procedure:
  1. Created a new Raster Layer
  2. In the Layers Palette, drag the new Raster Layer below your image layer
  3. Hide the New Raster Layer
  4. Reduce the Opacity of your Image Layer
  5. Save as PNG, select Alpha Transparency
With the above whatever background you place your image on, will blend with the image. So if you place it on a white background it will look the same as my first example. However if you place it on a dark background the image will appear darker...
