Ulead Library Files Location

Ulead Library Files Location
An unknown cause has made my computer unable to boot. I've tried numerous things but now I'm at the last resort of re formating and reinstalling windows. This would uninstall videostudio and also all the files in the videostudio's video library would be erased.
After I reinstall windows, and then reinstall ulead, I was thinking I can just overwrite the library file located somewhere in (/program files/ulead/... ) with my old library file. If there's such a file.
Is this possible and if so what file should I be looking for? I'm using videostudio 11 plus.
Thanks and you all have a Merry Christmas!

Hi
The location of the library files differ depending whether you are using XP or Vista.
And very different for X2 (VS12)
The video library file is called ......VS_Video.dat
Image library being ....................VS_Image.dat
Title ..........................................VS_Title.dat
For XP the files should be here:/
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0
For Vista
C :/Users/User Name/AppData/Roaming/UleadSystems/Ulead VideoStudio/11.0
Copy them to a safe location, then replace after installing Video Studio.
PS
The folder AppData is a hidden folder and needs to be activated to view.
Tools-Folder Options-View- show hidden files and folders.
And a Merry Christmas to you

Before you go down the route of re-installing windows perhaps I can help try and get it going again.
If it will not boot then the first thing to try is to get your XP installation CD and place it in the CD Drive. Start your computer and make sure that it boots from the CD - you might need to alter your computer BIOS if it does not.
When the XP installation disc has finished starting up it will offer you a repair option.

I just thought of something:
I do most of my editing on two computers, I have all my files saved on 1 external harddrive and switch between my two computers. Is there any way to have ulead look for the VS_video.dat files and so forth on my external harddrive, instead of on program files/Uleadsystems...
That way I could have the same library for both my computers.

Sure. Many people store their clips on an external drive. If you move them there you will simply have to relink them.

Yes you can though unless you are above average with computersnbninja8 wrote:I just thought of something:

(on a scale of 1-10 you would need to be at least 8 ) then I would not recommend messing because you could end up messing your computer up to such an extent that you would have to re-install Windows.
If you do feel confident and competent then you need to download the Microsoft Power Toys for XP.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... rtoys.mspx
You would then change the location of your documents and settings so that it points to the external drive - and you would have to do this on both computers. If you forgot to attach the external drive to one of those computers and turned it on you would doubtlessly run into problems because the computer would think the documents folder had been deleted.

I make very extensive use of Libraries in VS (now 11.5+). I have in fact run into some kind of limitation and, right now, can only create and use a maximum of 40 Video Libraries. Sometimes I can create more, but if I try to open them, I get kicked into the default Image Library. Most users probably do not use so many libraries so it is not likely a problem overall.
More to the point of the original post, I learned that re-installing VS (then version 8 as I recall) would have the effect of overwriting all of my custom libraries with the original default libraries. Perhaps that is no longer the case. In any event, I now regularly copy all of my custom libraries to an external drive just in case. I keep all of my other video files on external drives as well though they are too many and too large to make any copies. I do keep the originals of any MiniDV cassettes that are of special significance, for as long as they might last.
