Problem loading Visual Studio 9

Post by Eddie Mason »

I purchased and downloaded Video Studio9 upgrade on the 20th April, but when I tried to install it I got an error message telling me that I cannot run an upgrade because I have no other Ulead product on my computer. This is incorrect I am at present using video Studio 8, I also have DVD Movie Factory SE, Photo Explorer 7, and photo express 4SE.

I have been on to Technical Support on several occasions by both Email and telephone , but they do not have the knowlede to fix the problem and have been unable to get a response from Head Office.

Does any user have a cure for this problem?

Look forward to receiving your advice

Hi

To ‘Upgrade’ to VS 9 you need at least one previous full version.

I have Video Studio 5 (five) as a full version and upgraded to VS 7 then VS 8.

The full version provides proof that you can upgrade.

What versions of Video Studio do you have, and which is the full version.

If the full version is on CD then simply place the cd in your drive.
Exit the auto install program, but leave the disc in the drive.

Install VS 9.

Hope this helps

At present I am using Video Studio 8, but it still tells me that I have no Ulead product on my computer.

Is Video Studio 8 an upgrade from a previous version or a full version?
Is Video Studio 8 the only previous version you owned?

You should have a full version of video studio.

If VS 8 is a full version was it a boxed set on CD, or a download file.

If it was a CD, place that in your drive and try to install VS 9.

It was a full version of Video Studio 8 which I downloaded, unfortunately I ran it rather than save it to disk.

I think you need to pester the ulead tech support or customer service.
I found the following note in FAQ’s

http://www.ulead.co.uk/tech/vs/vs80faq.htm

You may need proof of purchase, invoice etc.

How can I re-download my product?
If you have purchased a downloadable (ESD) version of Ulead software from the Ulead Mall, please contact the the Customer Service Center provided by our E-Commerce solution provider, Element 5, for information about re-downloading our software.

Trevor -- sorry to take issue with you , but for an upgrade, you don't have to have a FULL version of anything. The SE versions of all the programs are meant to be teasers, encouraging people to upgrade. And this is confirmed on the Ulead site at http://www.ulead.com/store/vs/upgrade.htm where it is clear that you can upgrade from SE versions. I personally upgraded to Movie Factory 3 from an SE version of MF2.... Incidentally, I note on that page that Ulead intends to bring out no less than four SE versions of VS9...

I also downloaded and installed VS8. I found a setup.exe file in the folder where I installed VS8. Try using this file to reinstall VS8.

There is no setup.exe file in the Video Studio 8 folder. This may be because I originally downloaded the demo version to see that it did everything that I wanted, and then when I was satisfied I purchased the full version.

Hi Eddie

You say that you didn’t save the VS8 download to disc, the operation of downloading should have saved the file to your computer’s hard drive.

Did you deleted the file after installing VS8.

The full version download file is called uvs8_full_e.exeTry searching your PC for this file, unless you are definite that you deleted the file.

Ken
Thanks for the input, I do realise there are many versions of software that allow upgrades.
My questions were aimed at establishing how many and which one was the ‘proof of purchase’ version that allowed Eddie the upgrade.
It turns out that VS 8 was the first version Eddie purchased from Ulead and therefore must be the FULL version.
Anyhow this isn’t getting Edie sorted.

Thanks Again

I've searched for uvs8_full_e.exe without success. This may be because when I installed the Video Studio 8 I chose the option Run rather than Save to Disk. So it was downloaded direct from the Internet.

As a note Video Studio 8 is still working perfectly.

Hi Eddie

Sorry Eddie,
Your only option is Ulead to see if they will give you access to download VS 8 again.
As I said earlier you will need proof of purchase. Maybe your registration details will do, all my invoices are electronic, e-mail, they do recommend printing them out, but I never do.

Without the original or another copy you are a bit stuck, Ulead have to respond and do something for you.

By the way where are you in this big wide world?

All the Best

Hi Trevor,

many thanks for your help, I dont hold out much chance of getting help from Ulead getting them to respond is almost impossible.

I live in Southampton, which is dull and overcast at the moment.

Kind regards

Eddie
