VS Pro x2 crashing on reusing RW's

Hi

I've checked thru your board and didn't see anything on using DVD + RW's.

I go to put my project out to Disc, so I put in a RW that I have used and the whole thing crashes and restarts my computer. { RW's are fine when I first use them.}

Didn't have this problem with VS9 it always detected the used disc and asked if I wanted to erase data {answered Yes } it erased and I continued to burn out my project no problem.

I've tried reformatting the used disc prior to using it again and the same thing happens.

Am I doing something wrong Sometimes my Husband reformates the disc on his computer and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

I gave up on re-writeable discs years ago because they seem to cost a fortune and after being used once they never seem to erase properly because second and subsequent uses always end up (for me) with blotchy videos.

Perhaps I am just unlucky but I found this with several different computers and several different burners and several different makes of CDRW/DVDRW.

Apart from that, the best advice I can give is to check this link and pay particular attention to "Firmware" and also "Burn Speed" (Lower the better - especially with RW discs).

DVD Burning / Playback issues

Unlike Steve, whenever I make a standard definition DVD, I *always* first burn it to an RW disc to see how it plays on a stand-alone player. I have used both (TDK) +RW and (Maxell and Princo) -RW equally successfully. Moreover, I use the same discs over and over again with no difficulty. I burn them at their lowest possible rated speed. And I have been doing this with all versions of VS from VS7 onwards to the current X2. Nor do I do anything 'special' to get them to work.

I had some problems in the past with the Princo discs on older (now replaced) LG burners, but not with my current LG's, Pioneer, Matshita and Sony burners.

Have you tried burning something else to one of your RW discs, using another burning program like Nero or Roxio? If you have trouble with that, it could be that your burner does not like the brand of disc you are using which is unfortunately, not uncommon...

No I haven't tried to burn on the disc with another program.
Will give it a try and see if it is the disc brand that I currently using.

Like I said I've never had a problem with VS 9 and rewritables.

Still have the same computer and burner.

One other thing you might try, which might relate to whatever your husband is recording onto the discs, is to disable the Windows "Autoplay" feature which is enabled by default. Maybe something on the disc is trying to run and causing a conflict with VS.

There might be a more elegant way of doing it, but this works for me.

In "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer", right click on the DVD drive and click on "Properties". Then in the window that comes up click on the "Autoplay" tab.

Check the "Select an action to perform:" radio button. Click on each of the six categories in turn, which start with "Music Files".

Next click on the "Take no action" option, and click "Apply".

Do this in turn for all the available categories from "Music Files" to "DVD Video".
