I am using the trial version of X2. After the Try/Buy/Activate screen, I get the following error when the next splashscreen is displayed: Corel VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close... (pulled from the application event log): Faulting application vstudio.dat, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module ulauncher.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00003e92. The application then closes.
Installing the trial on another PC works fine so it's not the install exec.
I have updated the ATI drivers and Direct X to the latest version.
Any ideas? Thank you.

Hi Caterino,
and welcome to the board!
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the TBYB install of X2.
My fisrt suggestion would have been to make sure you updated your DirectX to the Nov2008 release - but you have already done that.
Are you using the full ATI Catalyst Control Center? I recently installed an X1650 pro in my old desktop, and had quite a bit of trouble with the Catalyst 8.12 drivers. In the end, I reverted to just the ATI display driver plus the freeware ATI Tray Tools, which seems to offer everything that the CCC suite does but with a much lower resource overhead.
Firewall and AV software can be pretty invasive, so you might try uninstalling the X2 trial and re-installing with the firewall and AV turned off, making sure you're not connected to the net.
You might also check for any updates to your motherboard bios and chipset and audio drivers. If you have a "Tier One" pc such as an HP, Dell, Gateway etc, that should be pretty easy, otherwise you might need to go to several sites to get the downloads.
Good luck!

Gave up and re-built
Uuhg! After updating every driver and bios with no effect, I threw up my hands and re-built my PC. That did it! God knows what was causing the problem.
Anyway, wouldn't you know it. I get my problems worked out and now the trial is expired! Is there any way to get another trial? I only need a week or two.
Thanks!

Normally not on the same computer, But if by 'rebuilding' your computer you meant completely reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling all the programs, I would have thought that would have wiped the registry, and thus any reference to the earlier install of the trial version of X2... thus opening the way to reinstalling the trial version on the 'rebuilt' computer...

Ah well... !
The only other thing I can think of -- if you don't have a second computer -- would be to actually buy the program (or an update if you have a previous version), and if you don't like it, take advantage of their 60 day (I am pretty sure, though it's worth checking) refund policy...
