V9 - I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

Post by rculver00 »

Tried all the suggestions (short of removing my video card, which NO ONE should have to do) and still cannot get it to run. My time is worth money too, you know.

I contacted www.element5.com with my order info and request for a refund with no response.

Anyone have any luck getting a refund or has it already found it's way into Red China's PLA...

Too bad it didn't work for you. I haven't had any problems and I wish I could help you.

You should write both element5 and your credit card company.

Still having problems ?

rculver00,

I am sure that I have seen your previous post, what what the title? I can look up and review what you have tried.

Please do not give up, I love using UVS and especially version 9, as do many other people. But that does not help you, so can we help?

Are you able to back up your important files and reinstall all you software from scratch? I know it takes time, and I to do not have much spare time to put to things like this, but I am very persistant and if I want to do video editing I will rebuild my PC several times (I had to to get over a problem that Microsoft Windows Update 3.1 gave me). Maybe if you knew how great UVS9 was, you would not want to give up. Please keep trying.

Are you in a position you could try a re-install of all you software (but I would suggest not applying MS Hot Fixes via Windows Update as one of these may be your problem, it was for me) ?

Are you in the USA ?

rculver00,

It's very possible you have a bad download. They have had problems
at the downloading site.
A few others have had bad downloads and couldn't get the program
to run properly. Even if the SIZE of the files are the same the contents
within the file can be corrupted.

Even if you've downloaded twice BOTH the downloads could be bad.
You need to run a binary comparision between the downloaded files
because they don't issue a MDS checksumming program with the
distribution.

Redownload the program again and save it in the same directory
as the first download, when asked to save give it another name.
Then open up a command prompt, navigate to the download directory
where both the files are at and use the File_Compare command (FC).

The format is fc <options> 1stfilename 2ndfilename

fc /B xxxx.exe xxxx.exe
This will perform a binary comparision of the 2 files.
You MUST use the /B switch.
If you start seeing numbers scrolling down the screen they are reporting
the differences. One of the files is bad.
Download again and most likely the downloads you do now will be good.

I tried downloading 5 separate times, all with no luck. I haven't compared the files though.

When I first purchased it, I had a choice to download from multiple mirror sites. I assumed it would all work so I never bookmarked the site. I then rec'd an email with a 'download link', but it was a direct link to an .exe and not the page where I had a choice. This is the link I have been using in my failed attempts. I logged into 'my account' and it still directs me just to the one same link I was sent in the order confirmation email.

I uninstalled/reinstalled VS9 5 times with 5 separate downloaded exe's. I uninstalled and reinstalled VS8 too. I updated my graphics drivers. I disabled every firewall and virus protection I have for the installs. I even spent another $35 and bought SysTweak's "Advanced System Optimizer V2" to clean up any errant registry problems (nice program, btw). I tried reconfiguring my system swap file size, etc to the VS9 documentation, the VS8 documentation and a bunch of other of my own.

I have version 8 and like it very much. I was hoping to use version 9 and it's new features, but this is enough to piss a guy off and ask for his money back.

WoW,
That's a real hassle.
The boxed version is the way to go.

Have you actually done a binary comparision of downloads?

If you go to the Nero website you will see the proper way to distribute
programs. After you download you check the integrity of the file against
their original mds. This way you know if the download was successful.

If VS8 runs then VS9 shouldn't be a problem.
Have you tried to at least run the trial program?

Good luck.

Yup - tried the trial version too. No dice.

Is Nero still at version 6?

How do you like it?

What does and doesn't it have compared to VS8?

Have you tried installing the files on a different computer? Unfortunately these types of reports would indicate that somewhere, somehow the plethora of PC hardware isn't always compatible - a separate computer install (from your files :-)) might help resolve where the problem lays.

The results of a binary comparison would be useful.

If somebody could generate a MDS checksum for their files and report it to this list it might help people who are having this problem (well, they could run their own MDS checksum and compare the results :-)). I haven't used MDS before so I guess I'll look into doing it with my files :-)

I did the electronic download too (didn't use their smartdownload though - I didn't want to trust it over using the standard download built into FireFox :-)) and have successfully installed on 3 separate computers (notebook, work PC and my main "burning PC" at home) without any problems.

I even downloaded everything twice and performed a binary comparision - the two downloads were exactly the same (downloads were separate by several days as well so there was less chance of connecting to the same server).

GeorgeK had an idea that many people do which is re-install.

If you don't want to affect your existing xp installation and
if your determined you can install a "Multi-boot" windows system.
You can install another copy of xp or 2000 onto another parition or
harddisk. This feature is built into the windows operating system.
When the computer boots up it goes to a startup menu with a choice of
which system to boot (ex: winxp on c_drive or winxp on d_drive etc).

If you don't know how to work with partitions etc because you only
have one drive then don't do it without professional assistance.
You can easily lose your existing operating system and ability to bootup.
If you play with your existing paritions on your operating system harddisk
you can lose everything in one key stroke (1/100 of a second?).

If you have a 2nd physical harddisk it's much easier.
There are many places on the web how to do this and also at the MS
website.
If you do this you would reboot using the CD. You can run the setup
executable from the cd while in the existing operating xp system and
re-install onto another drive but that leaves a link and locked file back
to the original install.

Anyway, after another installation onto another drive you can load the
video drivers and load VS9 as the first program. If it runs your hardware
is correct and the other installation has a software conflict.

Hope this helps,

MD
