Hello all video lovers,
Yes, really, I become crazy a bit about this issue. javascript:emoticon(':x')
See my posting dated Dec 08 "Burning on BD-RE"
In the meantime I understood that other video-makers also are struggling with this problem.
So I read the topic of Sue Whitham (Dec 15th) and the answers of Ken Berry and Zippy. I realised another test following the settings like Sue did - no result, or with other words "error code no burning possible".
I really investigated VS again and again to find a wrong setting or something like this, but I couldn't find anything wrong.
Again I contacted LG in the Netherlands - no answer. Obviously LG has absolutely no interest in her clients and users of LG products - so this was absolutely the last LG product I bought in my life!
Still I do have a suspect that the LG burners cannot burn all manufacturers of blue-ray discs because -like I wrote in this forum before- I burned with success on LG discs (which were delivered with the BR burner / obviously the only good gesture of LG) and on Sony discs. But the purchased BR discs Platinum and Philips dosn't work - so maybe, maybe *who knows* it is a manufacturer problem? (Unfortunately I can only buy Platinum and/or Philips BD's in the cities I can reach)
Is there nobody outside who has more suggestions or who has more experience in burning blue-ray in the meantime? Has Zippy got answers on his/her questions?
I am very curious and would be extremely grateful if somebody can help me with this issue. Like I said it is to become crazy having a HD camcorder, a HD TV set, a blue-ray burner and a very good processing software like VS - and no more possibilities to make your own BD video's!
Give me a nice Christmas gift if you can javascript:emoticon(':D')
By the way I wish all of you a very nice Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year!

BLUE-RAY burning - it's maddening
Life is great - but you have to discover it each day!
Hi Rolf,
sorry to hear you're still having Blu Ray problems.
I suspect the reason you don't get many responses is that there are as yet very few people who possess a Blu Ray burner, since the drive prices are still prohibitively high for most users.
Upon checking on the Newegg.com online retailer's site, I see that there are about 250 reviews for your LG model, mostly good, although not that many users seem to be actually burning discs. That's not too surprising, bearing in mind the cost of the discs.
Here's a link to the site if you feel like sifting thru the reviews.

Were the sample discs that came with the drive write-once BD-R discs, or re-writable BD-RE?
I find the quality of many regular DVD-RW discs marginal, so it must be even more of a technological challenge to make a good BD-RE disc.
So I would conclude that your problem is disc related. All I would suggest is that you follow Etech's advice in response to an earlier post from you that you output VS to folders and then try burning to the disc with a third party application, or even the Ulead/Corel Burning software, and also experiment with the error-checking settings.
As for LG support not responding to your inquiries, they have a reputation for not supporting DVD drives for too long after releasing new models, and they may still be smarting about being fined heavily for their part in price fixing of the LCD market!
P.S. although it's not the best time to suggest it, you might also try buying some other brand of BD-RE discs online, where you should find discs by most of the big name manufacturers.

If it helps
I have used the TDK branded Blu Ray disks without issues with burning - just the playback speed issues I've mentioned elswhere, but that's another story!
Whilst on hols the other month I used BluRay disks to backup all my video (just as data disks) and it worked a treat.
Perhaps one handy hint is, as 2Dogs states, that these technologies are often marginal / pushing the true specifications. For instance, my regular DVD writer claims 40x speed, but I can guarantee that if I try to write at that speed, it will fail, even with good quality branded media. Instead, I tend to write at, maybe, 8x speed. That way I get a reliable burn, & time for a quick cup of tea
Zippy!

Hello 2Dogs and Zippy,
I am so glad with the responses of you two - thanks very much!
Yes I believe more and more that my problem is a manufacturer issue. Now I try to buy or Sony or maybe TDK BD-RE's (like Zippy wrote) and will proceed more trials.
The link you gave me, 2Dogs, is also very helpful and I will study the different contributes to this item, maybe that I will learn more about it. By the way the discs I used until now were BD-RE fortunately because otherwise it would be an expensive thing. The Platinum I bought for +/- £á 12,00 a piece and the one from Philips cost £á 23,00 (!!!). My experience is so far that the re-writeable one (RE) are cheaper -or at least equal to the other ones- then the type which you can burn only one time (BD-R).
All-over it seems more and more that the technique is not yet ripe for a 100 % and maybe therefore the fault is also to find in my own mentality because I always want to be one of the first!
Anyway I stay trying and the moment I will have a good result I will report it in this forum.
Thanks again so far (any new suggestion of course will be appreciated) and again I say to all of you MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW VIDEO YEAR.

Hello - first of all I wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR,
hosanna - hosanna ! You don't want to believe it but I found definitely the solution of my problems.
The LG burner I have DOESN'T burn any kind of Blue-ray disc.
In the meantime I tried Platinum, Philips, TDK and the projects were rejected.
Finally I found a new SONY BD-RE and see there - it work's!
So my conclusion is:
Only LG own product and SONY does work!
The disappointing thing is that LG didn't not answer to my requests and my help screams like I reported in this forum before.
And we -as customer- cannot decide if we shall install another firmware on a drive like a burner because there is a big risk that the result will be disastrous.
So I am asking myself: WHY LG DOS NOT HELP HERE CUSTOMERS?
VERY BAD SERVICE!
Anyway if you are busy to burn your own video projects be aware of the fact that the manufacturer of the used Blue-ray discs can play a very important actor in this game.
Same situation like years ago with DVD-R and DVD+R !
Thanks again for all your support and sympathy.

What firmware version do you have?
Hi Videorolf,
and a happy new year to you!
I'm glad to see that the tone of your post is a bit more upbeat, and that you've at least found a partial solution to your problem.
As for updating firmware on a burner - there is a frightening "sky is falling down" warning and disclaimer, but I've never had any problems. What you need to ensure is that there are no interruptions to the process. A power cut could be disastrous, but you can decide for yourself how likely that is. Round here, with electricity supply cables running on wooden poles, there's always a risk of falling branches or even errant squirrels at certain times.
Anyway, even if you decide not to update your firmware, it would be of interest to other LG Blu-Ray burner owners to know what firmware you have in your own unit, and maybe you could post it or add it to your profile. We may then know if the firmware updates make a difference.
