How can I edit a .vob file? Can I use Video Studio 11? If not how can I do it?

VS 10+ was the only version that allowed directly inserting VOB files to the timeline. VOB files are essentially MPEG-2 video files, having a little more data so that DVD players can play them.

So you need to use the Insert DVD/DVD-VR command. If the VOB files are on your Hard Drive they will need to be in a folder called VIDEO_TS, just like on a DVD. In the next dialog window that opens, select Import DVD Folder, and point VS to the VIDEO_TS folder. You will then need to check the box(es) next to the titles and chapters you want to import. VS will then parse and insert those files. You'll notice that after inserting to the timeline the extension will now be *.mpg...

A .vob file is just an mpeg-2 file with different coding attached to it. The easiest way to edit it is simply to change the .vob extension to .mpg and open that in VS for editing.

If you are asking how to import, then edit, the video on a DVD, then insert the DVD in one of your optical drives. Then choose either (a) Capture > Import from DVD/DVD-VR or AVCHD; or (b) right click in either the timeline or library panel and select Insert from DVD/DVD-VR or AVCHD. The program will examine the disc and bring up a tree structure of its contents. You can select from the various 'chapters' on it, and even preview what is in them. Then when you know which ones you want, make sure your tick the little box to the left of each 'chapter'.

And of course, you can't edit a VOB file from a commercial DVD, because they are usually copy-protected (CSS encrypted).
