Output long video to DVD Folders without "trimming&quo

Post by shotokan101 »

Hi,

My current VS Project is over two hours long and whenever I try to output to DVD Foldesr on Disk it always compresses - is there no option to output as is and the reauthor/compress in another App ?

Reason I want to try another app is that some parts of the video after recompression - when burned to disk - are distinctly jumpy/jerky etc. - but the same sections are fine in preview mode....

Depending on the bitrates of your files, no matter what program you use it will compress it to make it fit.

High bitrate = Large File Size = High Quality

Small bitrate = Smaller File Size = Less Quality

There are a couple of things you can do. When you render (Share) the file you can lower the bitrate. 8000 kb/s will get you about 1 hours worth of video, 6000 kb/s about 1.5 hours, and 4000 kb/s about 2 hours. The 4000 kb/s will look a little better than VHS quality, depending on your source material.

Another thing you can do is take the file you already rendered and run it thru a program like DVDShrink, which will shrink the file to fit the DVD at the highest possible bitrate.

As for the jerkiness problem we would need more info to help. Please read the following and supply the info: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... aa0e2caeaa

You can also read this about reducing the bitrate: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 9592#69592

Thanks Jeff - it was DVDSHRINK I was planning on trying....

...however - what if I wanted to output to DVD DL - via disk folders first - I assumed that this would be possible and that the "on-disk" sizes wouldn't matter unless I tried to burn them.... ?

Have you actually set it to output to a DL disk? And are you sure in any case that it is compressing during production of the DVD...? That can only occur if you have edited your project and jumped straight to the burning module (Share > Create Disk > DVD). If the project is too large to fit on a standard single layer or DL disk (depending on which you chose) or folder or disk image, then normally you would get a message telling you it is too big and do you want to proceed anyway. In my case, I do this all the time and get such a message. My purpose is also to reduce to fit with Shrink.

Hi Ken - It doesn't offer me (as far as I can see) a DVD -Dl option when I select the create disk option - just DVD (+others of course) - I guess If I put a DL DVD blank in the drive and tried to creat a DVD (as opposed to just disk folder output) it might allow without compression to the DL Blank media - but that's not a solution is it ?

...and yes it does warn me about it being too big for a single DVD and gives me the option Yes/No or something but the "no" option cancels the operation of course when what I wnat to do is just output what I've built so far to Video_Ts etc....

Of course saying NO cancels the operation. You have to say YES to get it to ignore its message and proceed. At least, that's what I do.

As for setting for a DL disc, when you open the burning module, down in the bottom left of screen are 3 icons, and directly above them, by default, a little window with 'DVD 4.7 G' showing. If you click on the drop down menu, you will get the choice of an 8.5 GB disk (and a 1.4 GB disk).

Thanks Ken - I'll check out the burning options to see if it allows dvd folder output greater than 4.5Gb - when I hit "no" BTW it takes me back and does not proceed....

Hi - selecting a DL disc type and only creating folders worked - thanks :D

Will post back if I still have the video jerkiness problem after DVDSHRINK'ing...

File format to shrink

Post by jumi »

I was wondering (amongst other things) how do I save a large file (ie over 4.7GB) in VideoStudio so DVD Shrink will recognise it? My experience has been that it has to have a Video_ts.ifo file .I am new at video editing and appreciate all the help I have had reading the forums

No. Shrink requires a Video_TS folder, with the whole usual variety of .vob, .bup and .ifo files in it, the same as you find in any video DVD -- because that is in effect what a DVD Folder consists of. And in Shrink you use the 'Open Files' command (and not the Open Disc command) and navigate to the Video_TS folder you are after...

HI - quick update - using DVDSHRINK to resize the DVD for single disk gave no video problems so I'm a happy bunny - although of course I'd prefer the VS12 resize to not introduce (apparently) the problem.

File format to Shrink

Post by jumi »

Hi and thanks Ken & Jim but I chose Share>create video file and all I got was an .mpg file that DVDShrink cannot use, no video_ts folder. What m I missing? Is there another option that would give me a video_ts folder? I am using VideoStudio 11 SE, a bundled version. Do I have to get the full version to do this?

I used the Create Disc option and unticked the Create DVD and clicked on the pulldown button on the right which offers the option to ceate on-disc folders which is what I then used in DVDSHRINK - but make sure you've changed the DVD type to 8.5 Gb/DL first....
