Free Effects for VS and MSP

proDAD Adorage and Vitascene Effects

Many software programs provide a free trial download, allowing users to try before they buy, but proDAD is giving full starter kits of its popular Adorage and Vitascene Effects software free, no strings attached. These starter kits have up to 170 effects and plug-ins that are compatible with most editing applications. Got a wedding video to edit or that holiday compilation? Now's a good time to check it out.

The Adorage Starter Kit is a compilation of transitions and effects that include sports-related media, wedding effects and other family and celebratory themes. The kit includes plug-in support for Adobe Premiere Pro and Elements, Avid Liquid, Canopus Edius, Sony Vegas and Vegas Pro, Ulead MediaStudio Pro and Magix Video Deluxe 15 NLE applications.

The Vitascene Effects kit has many professional-grade effects that include film look and text effects. Upgraded users will find support for Adobe Elements and Premiere Pro; Avid Liquid 7.x, Xpress 5.x and Media Composer Adrenaline 2.x; Canopus Edius 4.x, 5.x and Neo 1.x; Magix Video Deluxe 2008 and Deluxe 15; and Sony Vegas 5.x, 6.x, Vegas Pro 7.x and 8.x.

Of course, proDAD hopes that you enjoy the starter kits so much that you'll upgrade to its paid versions, which include many many more effects. See the full review from Videomaker's October 2008 issue.

Vitascene Starter Kit: http://www.prodad.com/starter/vitascene.html
You sign up for these starter kits and they send you an email with a download link. I received the Vitascene link but have not received the Adorage yet. The Vitascene effects are very nice. The set-up process detected my VS10 and automatically installed the plug-in to the vfx folder. However, it did not recognize my X2 so I copied the plug-in to the X2 vfx folder and it works fine, showing in my Transitions menu.

Mods, I don't know if this should be put in the Free Stuff forum, as I don't know how long this promotion will last.

I guess their process to send the links is not automated. I registered for both plug-ins and nothing has shown up in my e-mail yet......

Well, I got the info from Videomaker Magazine. I don't know how many subscribers they have, but if they received thousands of requests around the same time they must be swamped! I still have not received the Adorage link yet.

I received the Vitascene e-mail and tried the installation. As was the case for Black Lab, it did not recognize X2. It only detected a trial version of Premiere. I checked in the Premiere folder and saw a Vitascene file in the "Plugins" subfolder, but it looks like a file unique to Premiere because it has an extension of .prm.

The only previous version of VS I have is 11.5, which I uninstalled when I got Pro X2. I may try reinstalling it to see if the Vitascene installation recognizes it.

So, if X2 is your only NLE, the plug in may not work for you.

I forgot to mention something in my above reply, but the "EDIT" button is missing so I'm adding a new reply:

In addition to the Premiere plug-in, the installation installed a stand-alone program. I opened it briefly but haven't figured out what how to use it, or what it can do.

I received the Adorage download link and installed it, but can only find one transition that has installed in VS11.5, that seems to be a cross fade. There is none of it in VS 12.

In the vfx folder there is 142 items in VS11.5 and 141 items in VS 12. That leads me to believe that it hasn't installed properly.

The stand alone program has installed and it works and has many effects in it, but I still haven't figured what to do with it yet.

Does anyone know how I can get all of these effects into VS12?

I've received the Vitascene link (still waiting for Adorage), which installed a stand-alone program and also created a plug-in for VideoStudio 10. (I'll copy that to Pro X2 as the poster indicated above.) Playing around with it a bit, I've learned that the installed program contains numerous very cool filter effects and transition effects, but the plug-in is for the transitions only and with VideoStudio open it appears in the transition effects folder under "Prodad". There it looks like only a single transition, but just drag the transition into your timeline. Then with the transition selected in your timeline, click on the Customize icon and you get kicked into the Vitascene starter program which allows you to easily turn the transition into any of the multiple transitions they have available, and you can further customize it (a lot of options here) if you like. Once you are done, either hit the F12 key or the little plug icon in the tool bar, and you are kicked back to VideoStudio with your snazzy new transition now sitting in your timeline.

Now, the question is, how to get Vitascene to create a plug-in for their equally cool filters. I poked around in the Vitascene program folder, but nothing suggested itself to me. You could apply the filters by running Vitascene as a stand-alone program but just quickly looking around in that, the interface was not going to be very intuitive for a VS user. There wasn't even an obvious way to bring your film clip into the program.

Is there a proDad icon in your VFT sub-folder in VS10 which you could transfer to X2 the same way you do the proDad.vfx file to the VFX sub-folder? The vft file is, of course, the video filter equivalent to the transitions vfx...

Unfortunately not. The installation of Vitascene created the vfx file (which is the plug-in) in the transitions folder of VS10, but did not create an accompanying vft file in the filters folder. I had even tried cheating by copying the vfx file into the filter folder (vft plug folder) and changing the suffix to vft. Since the plug-in really just calls up the vitascene module--where you can see both the filters and the transitions-- I thought it might work. VS10 still didn't call it up in its filters when I ran it though.

I have just received the following email from a user who is currently having difficulty logging-on to the Board, and wanting to comment on this thread. Here is his message:
According to the help file in the Vitascene stand alone program Vitascene can only be used as a transition in Video Studio.
I use Pinnacle Studio also (a purchase that I regret greatly) and it uses Vitascene as both a filter and transition. Hopefully this will help some of the folks keep from trying to make the filters work.

Thanks for your instructions! I have the Adorage file, not the Vitascene file - yet.
I was able to copy the file from VS11.5 to VS12 and it works exactly as you said. I found there were so many adjustments available in the Adorage program, it made my head spin.

It is a shame that VS users can't make use of the filters! Perhaps we all need to email ProDad and register our disappointment, which might encourage them to make that possible.

Keep in mind this is a free trial version. Perhaps if you bought the full version they would be more open to any suggestions.

Mmmmm, very true, but I don't have a lazy $2229.91 laying around to buy the whole collection. I really need a new camera when I can scrounge up enough dollars!
