UVS11 opening .ts files

I am using UVS11 and trying to insert a .ts file I recorded from digital TV, so I can create a DVD.
The file seems to insert fine, but then when I play it the screen flashes alternately green and black, and then VS crashes.
Can anyone advise how I can fix this?
Many thanks,
Gary

Whenever I get into file-format trouble,
SUPER (FREE!!!) usually saves the day! Try using SUPER to convert the file to DVD compatible MPEG-2. If you don't know what setings to use (resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc.), you can look at one of the your Video Studio project settings.

If, as I suspect it may be, it is from a HDTV, then you could Google for a freeware program called HDTV2MPEG2 which works quite well to convert my own transport stream video from my HDTV card to program stream mpeg-2 which VS has no trouble with.

Thanks for your replies.
Ken - the .ts file is from a satellite broadcast, but it is not HD. I did try HDTV2MPEG2, but it didn't work (every program that I tried to play the output with said it wasn't a valid file).
DVDDoug - I used SUPER in the end to conver the .ts file to an MPEG, and then I imported that into VS.
However, what I was wondering is whether there is a way to import the .ts files into VS directly. From what I've read online, it seems that .ts files are really MPEGs. It's not the end of the world, especially since SUPER is free, but it would make for a more efficient workflow if VS could do everything.
Thanks,
Gary
