I have an Ellion HMR700 Media recorder player that outputs mpg video files.

When trying to open them with Video studio 11 plus, It takes about 2 minutes to import a 2Gb clip, then when I attempt to play the clip VS11+ freezes for some time then crashes..

These files open and play in MS Media player.
I can edit and Play them in Nero Express,Windows Movie Maker and Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 10.

The only additional codecs I have on my system is the DIVX 6 suite.

As these clips are openable with other applications, is there something that can be done to make them work with VS11 plus

I have removed and reinstalled VS11plus.. No difference

Thanks for any help offered

You've probably got some slight corruption in your MPEG files. It's not that unusual for a file to play OK, but cause trouble when you try to edit or convert it. And, some programs are more tolerant than others. You might need to use one of your other programs instead of Video Studio, or another progam along with Video Studio, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

You might re-coding it with SUPER (FREE!!!). (i.e Re-code in the same format (MPEG-2?), but with a slighly different bitrate. In general, you should avoid re-coding lossy formats, but sometimes you don't have a choice. You can probably do the same thing with Nero, or one of your other programs.

Or, both VideoReDo (a simple MPEG editor $50 - $75 USD) and Womble (a full-featured MPEG editor $50 - $70 USD)) both have MPEG repair tools, that sometimes help. (You can get free trial versions of both programs.)
