How do you exit from a tool eg clone brush when you have finished using them in PSPro X

You can also temporarily switch to the pan tool by holding down SPACE. Hold it down and drag the image around - when you let go, you get your previous tool back. Very handy!
A very few tools require you to kinda "finish" them to get the full effect. An example would be the point-to-point line. In those types of tools you see a little icon in the tool options palette that looks like a green circle with a white check in it and is labelled "Apply". When you click that, your point to point line is closed off. This applies to one or two other tools as well.
