HDV Date/Time Code

I referenced this in a recent post to the "Wish List" but I was wondering if it is even worth it to wish for capturing, maintaining and displaying the date/time information from HDV (Canon HV30 camera) or is it not feasible/possible?

I have come to rely on that information from my Sony DCR-HV40s when filming birds and other wildlife in typically short clips since they don't seem to hang around long.....

I have used the HDVSplit application to split scenes by date/time but the date/time info is still not displayed when playing the clip in VS11.5+ (I realize it is a part of the new file name) and then there are also a lot more files to deal with. Scanning in VS11.5+ for scene changes works but it takes more than real time to do it.

Will I be waiting for X3?

Thanks.

Do you want the date/time as part of the video, or only to help in the capturing/editing process?

If the former, do you have Display DV Timecode in Preview Window checked in Preferences?

I the latter, have you tried DV Date?

With that said I don't know if it works with HD.

Thank you for the reply.

I just want to see the date/time when I am editing clips, not in the final product.

I do have the Display DV Timecode in Preview Window checked and it shows fine in all of my SD video clips. Just not in the HD clips. I read in another post that it apparently is due to the fact that SD can be captured as .avi but HD is only captured as mpeg and previous/existing versions/updates of VS did not anticipate that. I am wondering if future versions/updates might. Or perhaps it is not possible to do?

Now that you say that, I believe that function is only available for AVI. It will not work with MPEG-2, even SD.

Any guesses on whether it will ever be available?
