Hi, a request to any forum members who feel inclined to offer advice to a relative newcomer to home video editing.
I'm in the process of upgrading my computer and getting a laptop.
I have looked on the internet at a number and am taken with the Dell Studio 17 series, although it appears to be a bit dodgy on audio.
The spec. that appears to be financially and operationally the most likely, offers the following.
Intel duo core processor T5800 2GHz 800MHz FSB 2 MB L2 cache, 256Mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Video Card, 3072 MB 800 MHz dual channel DDR2 SD Ram.
Has anybody any experience of this computer and/or would anybody care to give advice on what would be an appropriate laptop <600 pounds to be used mainly for home video?
I know this is not the normal request for technical editing information, but, with the amount of expertise that is available on the forum I thought that this was the best source of information I could possibly approach.
The other possibility is the Acer 7720G, almost 20% cheaper, but it's apparently a bit heavy and a clunky beast although very fast. I don't think that the spec. is quite so good but could be adequate.
Any advice or information would be gratefully received.

The laptop described appears to be up to the job - does it have a fire wire port? This is necessary if you have a DV camcorder and so need to transfer your recording into the laptop.

Hmmm lets start with this....

Intel Core I7 965 Extreme Edition CPU ~$2500au
Intel Motherboard or ASUS P6T Deluxe to suit CPU ~$550au
6gb of High Performance memory DDR3 1600 ~$600

Just add a case, power supply, HDD, monitor and some software and you are right to go...

Should get away with ~$5000au
