Working folder vs. Preview folder

Post by kebrinton »

When setting File > Preferences > General and > Preview, how are the "Working folder" (under General) and the folder for preview files (under Preview) different? I usually specify the same folder for both; but are there advantages to having separate folders?

Hi Keith

Keep separate folders……..

The ‘Working Folder or Capture Folder ‘are the same and contain your captured clips.
I make a working folder for each project saving all the clips/images/audio/projects. Everything for a particular project is saved under the same folder.

The Preview Folder is used by VS to store temporary files. Usually the files created when you select the option Playback Method ’High Quality Playback’ from the Preferences Panel.
This allows you to playback your project at a higher quality as temp files have been saved to your hard drive.(the files take some time to create)

Both folders are on the :C drive by default.
If you have a separate drive for video editing, select that drive for your folders.

Hope this helps
