Color corretion, white balance suggestions?

I'm using a Canon HG10, VS11.5 Plus. I'm looking for suggestions in software to help in color correction as I've not had much success with VS.

I have video I shot while in Antarctica. Lots of snow and many overcast days. I am trying to make some color adjustments to get a cleaner white and a bit more saturated colors but the tools available in VS have given me poor results. I tend to get a magenta cast in the snow or white clouds then if I try correcting, even slightly for that I get a cyan or greenish cast and an uneven transition in both cases. I've tried all the options in the "color correction" field but have not been very successful. I've also applied "auto levels", "auto color balance", etc. filters with poor results.

Let me say I am very much us to working on still images in Photoshop with Levels, Curves, color balance and so on so perhaps I'm to critical or expecting too much from VS? I do understand I will not be able to replicate the controls found in Photoshop.

I did download the latest version of Photoshop Extended to try the video editing features but it apparently does not support AVCHD files or the mpeg's I created in VS. Does X2 have any better controls. I'm downloading the trial now but thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks, David

The controls in X2 are the same as in VS11.5+. As far as I can tell, no modifications or enhancements were made to those controls..

Don't know if this will help you but,
I have found that if you go to your Preferences box,
under the Edit tab and uncheck Apply color filter option,
that the color and balance looks a lot better and easier to work with.

Try to use manual controls instead of automatic options. If you know Photoshop, it will be easy and you get better results.
