mpg to wmv - issue w vs12 vs vs11

Hi :

I encountered an interesting issue today....

I have been using the Neptune website for video sharing. I have always selected SHare - share Video On-line within the Video Studio interface - selected WMV - best quality and have uploaded directly to Neptune Website. (You can also log into Neptune and directly upload any WMV file to their site once the file is converted)

I noticed is VS 12 that the share video on-line to Neptune has been replaced with You Tube. So on my last project when I wanted to share the video on line - I just converted my project - Share - Creat Video File - and selected WMV Zune - 640 x 480 because I figured this was the format that best matched what I had been doing before.

Interesting the file converted to WMV and uploaded to Neptune just fine....HOWEVER the file was almost twice the size. a 650mb mpg converted to a 110mb wmv!! I then went back to VS11+ and converted the same mpg and it converted to just 60mb.... Clearly VS12 is either not using identical parameters to what it used before .... otherwise I'm not sure why the file size should be so much larger. I have limited storage space on Neptune - so I'd rather my file sizes not be any bigger than they need to be.

I can either continue to do the conversion in VS11 - or find a solution to getting the same file size/type in VS12 - any suggestions???? It's certainly easier to stay in the same program rather than close VS12 - open VS11+ and do the conversion there..... sort of seems unnnecesary.

ANyone know what happened between ulead and neptune??? The site isn't the best but it's certainly cheap and useful - and best of all I like to control privacy...giving access only as I would like to.

thanks.

After you click Share>Create Video File the Create Video File window opens and at the bottom are the Properties. Are they the same in X2 as the are in v11?

Again, are the properties actually the same?

I don't like the preview window image that X2 produces when capturing, so I capture with v10 then edit in X2. Not ideal, but it works.

YouTube can do that too.

thanks.

i just checked to make sure that the video properties were the same and they were.....

in VS11+

Share - Share Video Online

Properties
Windows Media Video
30 fps
24 bits 640x480
Frame Based
44.1 khz
16 bit Stereo
Ulead_Neptune_Best Quality

on VS12

Steps
Share - Create Video File - WMV - WMV Zune ( 640x480 30fps)

Properties
Windows Media Video
30 fps
24 bits 640x480
Frame Bases
44.1 khz
16 bit Stereo
Ulead-WMV Zune 640x480 High Quality

kind of odd, right? I did contact Neptune about this and they didn't have an answer ( I didn't expect them too...) They deferred to Ulead Support and I'm deferring to the user board....

let me know what you think.

As for you tube and PRivacy - I wasn't aware that I could put a password on samples there...but what is nice about Neptune is that I have my own site and can keep a vareity of samples there, with explainations of the work etc.....

Hi Ilene:
The 2 formats below encode at totally different video and audio
Kbps. If you open up the 2 and look at them in detail you will see the difference.

for instance
Neptune_best_Quality
uses 662.96 video Kbps and
uses 96 Kbps audio

WMV Zune 640x480 High Quality
uses 15 Kbps video and
uses 196 Kbps audio

So the Neptune_best_Quality should be at lest double the file
size of the other.

I see what you are saying...
WHich file would you think would be larger? It looks like you are saying that the neptune would be larger but it is the ZUne that is twice the size...hence I prefer the Neptune format.

Is there a work around for this - or a custom setting that can be used in VS12?

Otherwise Neptune suggested that I convert to mpeg 4.

Sure! When you click Share>Create Video File choose Custom at the bottom of the list.
