Creating Transparency in PIx3

Post by Arlexda »

What I am trying to do is a collage of animals that are transparent, they will be placed on a background that is not transparent.

I am using a picture of a buffalo (after I have cut it away from its background) and am trying to make it transparent but, have been unsuccessful in accomplishing this in PIx3.

I tried using "Creating Transparent Objects" instructions from Corel but, am thoroughly confused re: the steps. Apparently, this is not the right tut to use for my project. I haven't been able to locate very many tuts for PIx3 and, I have searched all of the forums and the Web.

Could someone please help me figure this out. I would appreciate precise, step-by-step instructions as, I am relatively new to PIx3.

Thank you for your help.

If you are new to PIX3 why not take the Beginner's Workshop this way you'll learn what you need to know.

Beginner's Work Shop

Post by Arlexda »

:( It was suggested that I join the Beginner's Work Shop to help me learn more about creating in PIx3.

I read the "Guidelines" for the BW and it stated that those that "new members will not be accepted with VISTA".

Is there another workshop that I can join that does accept VISTA?

Thank you

Helpful bunch here eh

I'll give it a crack.

First problem I see is that transparency will only make your buffalo invisible against your background.
May I suggest after cutting your buffalo out you convert it to an object and fill it with a colour different to the background... Or have I misunderstood you
Cheers... I know 6 days later you have probably nailed your drama anyway

No, the information does not state those with Vista will not be accepted. It is those with OLDER version of PI on Vista that won't be accepted as there's far too many problems associated with it.
PLEASE NOTE: Windows Vista operating system is only fully compatible with version X3. There is a Vista patch for 12, but problems remain. New members will not be accepted with Vista and older versions of PI.
As for doing a transparent image with PI, this is quite easy to do.

Open a new canvas
Create your image
Look in the layer manager and you should see a plain white background with your image on another layer. The white background you can tick the little box to make the background transparent.
Select the object/image created, go to Web, Image optimiser and when the pop up dialogue box opens choose Save selected - this will then save your image as a .gif or .png. The background will automatically change to a transparent one. This can them be used with other images/objects.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response to my question. I haven't tried it yet it is 10:15 am CST now (have to get some shut-eye) but, intend work on it tomorrow.

I do want to know if these instructions will make the buffalo see through but, still maintain his color slightly so, that you can tell he is a buffalo and not just an outline of one. I want the background to remain as is (in full color) and with an American Indian Chief looking up). I will then place the buffalo overhead on the background. The end result should appear as if the Chief is remembering when or, as a dream.

Is there anything that I need to add to your instructions for what I want to do. I hope that I have explained this correctly.

Thanks

Maybe you could lower the transparency to give it an opaque look.
