rendering problems with ulead 11.5

Post by dharmashalin »

Hello fellow forum users-

I am using U-Lead 11.5 some time now and have some questions. The main thing I wonder about is Rendering times. What I find is that when making MPEG files and burning DVD's sometimes the file processes quite quickly (more or less real time) other times it can take 24hours to make a similar length movie. :( You'd probably need more information about file sizes and processors and all that, I'm a bit inexperienced in terms of technical specifications and that so you tell me what I need tell you. :?

A related question is, the time it takes to burn the introductions/menus to movies. I often find that the progress chart shows hours for the menu and the menu sound-track and then the rest of the movie comes quite quickly?

Let me know what information you need to make sense of my questions.

Many Thanks

Yes, I am afraid we would need to know the format of the video you are trying to burn. If you have edited your project, regardless of the format, and then when you have finished editing, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD, it will convert the project to DVD-compatible mpeg-2. Then you close the project and start a new one to clear the timeline. Then you select Share > Create Disc > DVD. Then you manually insert your new mpeg-2 plus any other DVD-compatible mpeg-2s of other projects that can fit on a single DVD. You build your menu, and burn. That way, there is no conversion that should occur during the burning process apart from the conversion of the menu. But for example, a one hour project of existing mpeg-2 burned to a single layer DVD (4.3 GB) will probably only take around 20 - 25 minutes. If it is taking considerably longer than that, then something is going wrong -- most likely you are converting the video again as part of the burning process, which should not happen, and certainly should not be taking 24 hours, regardless of how weak you computer might be.

One little thing you might want to look at is in the menu creation stage in the burning module. When you open the burning module (Share > Create Disc), you first insert your video in the burning "timeline". If you want to add Chapters, then click the Add/Edit Chapters button. Then you click next, and the page where you choose a Menu template appears. Once you have selected a template, you click on the Edit tab on the same page to select background music, change the background photo etc.

Down in the bottom left corner of the Edit page, though, is an innovation in VS10, continued in VS11 and 12, and I have found that it slows down my burning stage enormously, and even brought it to a complete halt. Now I never use it.

There are two icons, one above the other, labeled Menu In and Menu Out. Using them is supposed to animate the transition from the menu to a selected video clip. You will see that the Menu In icon is disabled by default (circle with diagonal line through it). But the Menu Out button is enabled. And this was the culprit. Click on the icon and it brings up a choice of animations. Choose the disabling one identical to the default for Menu In. Then proceed to burn. I think you should notice a considerable improvement in the speed.
