Overlay edits causing freezing

I tried what you recommended but unable to cut simultaneously, so i did it seperately and when i played the project the overlay track was a bit behind the audio, so i had to slide it back a second or 2. and i was under the assumption that when i disable ripple, there is to be a space left between clips even on the main, which is only happening on the overlay. am i not understanding this properly? no idea if this program is working properly or if i'm just stupid. getting very frustrated. used to use pinnacle and thought it was a piece of crap, thought this was better but so far not liking the program at all.

You cannot have spaces on the main video track.
You could place something on the video track where you want the space to be - such as a colour block.
