Best Approach when changing from trial version to retail?

Post by dalemccl »

I downloaded and installed the trial version of Paint Shop Pro X2 Ultimate.
I liked it, so I bought the retail box at Best Buy. What is the best approach for installing the retail version:

1. Un-install the trial first
2. Leave the trial version there and install the retail version over the top of the trial (i.e. to the same folder)
3. Other

I have had problems occasionally in the past when installing a retail version of software after having had a trial version on the PC. Usually the problem related to the retail software thinking it was still a trial version and limiting my use to 30 days.

Well that's up to you. Though I don't think you can install over the trial. You'll probably have to uninstall the trial first.

When I tried to install my retail version over the trial it detected the trial as being another version and had me remove it anyway.

However you should be able to just enter the serial number that came with your retail version on the start-up screen for the trial and the trial will remove the deadline for locking the software.

Well, in light of vidoman's response I retract my statement that there is no best way. Since it helps to avoid problems uninstalling the trial then installing the retail is the "best" method.

It is highly recommended to uninstall the trial version before installing a full version. Not doing so can cause installers of patches/fixes to be confused thinking that you only have a trial version, and will not install.

So uninstall the TBYB version first...;)
