Preciate your and everyone else's offer of help.
I've got 2 more projects to works on then im dun for a while.
X2 seems to have even more menus, etc. to choose from.

I wish it had more audio editing capabilities, but then it would have to cost more.

I'm not making home movies. I just record my band and want good pic and sound....nothing "fancy".

Menu Customization Problem

Post by mpgabor7 »

I have a video with 15 chapters. I want the first menu to be my own background with a "play-all" button and a "go to next menu" button. The second menu would be a simple text menu with all 15 chapters listed to jump to. I have no problem choosing my own background, but then there are still aspects of the original "template" that I can't completely delete. Some of them I can "hide", but others I have to "drag" out of view. I also can't figure out how to add the 15 chapters all on the second menu. I need to be able to add text and play buttons, and assign the clip, but I can't figure it out. The program wants to divide the chapters into numerous sub-menus instead of one.

I do this all the time in Workshop 2, but alas - - - Workshop 2 won't make 16:9 menus without a major work-around that I've read about in this forum. HELP PLEASE! Would VideoStudio Pro X2 allow for more customization?

15 Chapters

Post by mpgabor7 »

A significant part of my business are Life History Videos. http://www.mpvideoproduction.com/life_history_video.htm. With respect to that, most people watch from beginning to end the first time. After that, the feedback is that folks like to "jump" to their favorite parts. Therefore, I need to have the sub-menu which allows people to quickly jump to any one of the 15 chapters. I've always used Ulead's DVD Workshop 2, but with the majority of the consumer market going to the 16:9 format, I can no longer use it - - - unless I want to go through the complicated "work-around"..... which I do NOT want to do. :( I can not believe that Corel would drop this product. For the price-point, it was the most valuable product out there - - - aside from MediaStudio Pro 8.0, which they also dropped.

I make dvds with lots of chapters all the time. Shows with contestants, they want to go to just their performance, or maybe a demo with lots of songs and they people to jump to a particular one.
I often will have a main menu page with a play all button and a sub menu link.
Sub menu page has all the chapters listed seperately.
I also use Workshop.

Only difference is I don't find the workaround at all onerous, once you've done it once or twice it's just like creating a new menu page or something similar, it becomes second nature.

Didn't I read somewhere in one of the postings regarding the "work-around" that there is an issue when the 16:9 DVD is then played back on a standard 4:3 TV? Or did you find a way around this? If so, what is your step-by-step procedure for doing this menu in Workshop 2 so that there isn't an issue - - - regardless which TV type or computer you watch it on?
Thanks!
