DVD Chapter Menus

Post by wstagner »

I've read and printed the VS tutorial and it's been quite helpful.
However, I'm producing videos of my band and I'd like to create a more "commercial" looking menu. Since some of our videos consist of more than 20 separate clips (songs) I'd like to keep the number of menu pages to a minimum.

The ONLY template I've found that allows up to 9 chapters is the thumbnail menu. This is ok, I guess, but some of our videos fade in and when the thumbnail is displayed, it's black.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Perhaps this product is too basic for my needs?

TIA

Also each chapter in the DVD is the song name. Is there any way to have the song names (video files are the same name as the song) automatically appear as the chapter names so I don't have to manually key them in?

Hi
It sound like you have made one video & put chapter points into it & yes i think that way you would have to name each chapter, if you make a video file of each song when it is placed onto the menu it will use the song title (file name) to be displayed, with the thumbnail showing black if you right click on the thumbnail, Change this scene thumbnail you can move the slider to any point in the clip,
If you search this forum somewhere there are a lot of menus made buy members (i would love to put the link in but dont know what it is) one of these might suit your needs?
Hope this helps

Hi, Pete...thanks.
I've just sent you a PM.

Can you please tell me what tools you used to create/modify the menu?

Thanks,
Walt

I already have individual files for each song rather than one continuous video.

What I was hoping to be able to do is in the editor:

select all the songs
move them to the timeline (they've already been edited)
select create DVD
add chapters (was hoping they'd automatically get added individually)

BUT alas the program doesn't work that way.

The recommended procedure is, after you have finished your editing you go to Share>Create Video File to create a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file of your VSP (project). In your case you will do this for each song's video project. When that is complete you clear the time line (File>New Project) and go to Share>Create Disc. This opens the burning module. Use Insert Media to insert each of those MPEG-2 files to the burning time line. You then proceed to build/customize your menu.

See the Authoring a DVD section HERE.

Ok, Pete....dunno why PM didn't work.
Can you just email your menu directly to me:

Yes, the forum has been experiencing numerous problems for a couple of weeks. The moderators have been doing their best to try to get Corel to fix them...

Once you get the Debug message, do NOT refresh the page as that just means the message will be posted twice. What I am doing -- while waiting for Corel to correct the many faults which have occurred -- is to press the page back button (or use the Back button on your mouse if you have one with such a button...) This will take you back to the page where you composed your message. Then just select Video Studio in the Jump To window or above the composition window (Corel User to User Web Board Forum Index -> VideoStudio)... that will take you back to the main page of the forum and you will see your thread and with you showing as the latest poster.

It's klutzy, I know, but at least it avoids the double or triple postings we are starting to get...!

When you get the debug message the Corel User to User Web Board Forum Index button is just above the message box. Just click on that to avoid the double post and take you back to the index.
