Fuzzy Text in PIX3

Post by Arlexda »

I am having a problem with text on my website. In PIX3 it is not as clear as the other PI programs. Is there anyway to adjust the text to make it clearer?

In tool settings for Text tool there is Antialiasing option. Try to use it.

That does sound like an antialiasing issue. One thing I'm curious about, do you mean graphical text (where you're using 2D or 3D fills/effects) or just plain text?

A sample of the problem might be helpful.

This is probably due to the method that PI uses for antialiasing - for small text (i.e. under 30px or thereabouts) the build in Windows anti aliasing is much better, but PI doesn't use it. If you're making buttons for a website, the only way to get clear text is to actually make a test webpage using the buttons as the background image for a CSS style, then put real text over the top, using HTML, then cut the button using a screengrabber (I recommend FastStone Capture), and then save the button like that.

All small text that PI produces is blurred and unclear, and looks VERY unprofessional on a website. This is one of the few bad things about PI, everything else I love, but this problem is a big one for a lot of people.

But other programs also use their own unsatisfactory anti aliasing for smaller font sizes, so I don't think there is an easy solution.

I agree PI's small text doesn't look good.
But I've checked two other photo editors I have (PS CS3 and Photo-Paint X3) against PIX3, with 12 point text, with all aa settings, and they all look similar to each other.
I think better option in such case is to convert text to image and then apply some filters.

I found that the only way to get clear, small text, was to produce it in HTML, apply a background of the button or image that you want the text to go on, using CSS, and screengrab it using FastStone Capture. A massive amount of work for such a small thing, but it seems like none of the graphics programs programmers care about this. You would have thought they could have used Windows' built in anti-aliasing and give us the option of choosing it.
