Bug in VS9

Post by zolushka »

Bug! Bug! Bug!
No matter, what disk and directory you specified, when you're creating DVD, on my WinXP SP2 image goes only to C:\Documents and Settings\....\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0\
In version 8 you can specify any place, now it ignores your input.
I don't have enough room on C: and I'm stuck!
I want my money back!!!!!

Calm down, zolushka,
I have the same problem of not enough space on drive C: to do all the working stuff. and I was able to get VS9 to let me use drive F:. I am not at home right now, so I can't look at the exact place to do it, but it's under Tools and preferences, I think. I'll have to look at it when I get home this evening and I will post how to do it, unless someone beats me to it before I get home. You have to change the location for the temporary files as well as everything else. Once you do that, VS9 will remember where everything is stored. It's 9:48 AM CDST and it'll be around 6:30PM CDST when I get to post it.

I already changed all temp folders pointing to another disk and it works OK. This one comes not from preferences, but you have to specify it directly, when you get to "share your project" tab

Make sure that your 'Working Folder' is not pointing to the 'C' drive

File / Preferences / Working Folder

It is advisable to use a seperate folder for each project

It is not. All working folders are pointing to another drive.
Again, this has nothing to do with preferences. It is a bug. You click the browse button, select drive and folder, click OK and you selection is not accepted - SHARE still pointing to My Documents\Ulead.....

Still not quite sure what you mean when you say "*share* still pointing to C:/ etc." - each function ("Create Video File" - Create Sound File" - Create Disc etc.) within 'share' can be set to save to a specific location - but not 'share' itself.

Do I gather that you are trying to create a DVD disc image file, you select the location to save that to on the final screen of the "Create Disc" module - that is the screen after you have created menus and titles and after the simulated DVD player and is the one with "BURN" in the bottom right corner, - On that screen you remove the tick from "Burn to Disc" and put a tick in the box "Create Disc Image File" then in the drop down next to that select the location to save to - it can be anywhere.

Then when you click "Burn" the .iso file will be rendered and saved to the location you specified. Works for me every time no problem - if it is a bug it appears to be only your computer which is affected.

Yes. Except, that it ignores location I specified.
I reinstalled VS9 2 times. It did not help.

I had this problem last week and I contacted tech support. Their reply was change the working folder in the Create disc step as well. (The preferences in the settings menu box at the bottom left of the create disk screen)

Once I did this all was well.

Give it a go.

Hi bgregor

Thats a bit new in VS 9

A bit of a shame that you have to change the 'Working Folder' in the burner pages as well.

bgregor could you write this as a new posting, I think this may be useful to many readers.

Okay, I got home early and checked it out. I was able to set the folder locations when I clicked on "Share" then "Create Disk". Since I didn't want a DVD of the project, I just chose "Create DVD Folders" and "Create Image File". I then clicked the folder and chose the directory (it evenave me to option to create it, so I did). After the iso and DVD folders were created, I was even able to run the DVD off the harddrive with PowerDVD. And it was in the directory that I had selected.

When I finished, I exited VS9 and re-ran it. I loaded up the project file again and clicked on "Share" and then "Create Disk". It returned to "Burn DVD" and the other two (Create DVD Folders" and "Create Image File") were not checked. The grayed out directories for them were back on Drive C in the default location. However, once again I was able to check those two and then click on the folder and locate the folder that I wanted to put them in. So, I don't understand why you are having a problem since it is working fine for me.

IMHO, there is a bug, but as Mathis says, you can control it by explicitly setting the path every time you use it. The "bug" lies in the default settings, which are hard-wired to the C drive (in some cases) instead of remembering how you set it the last time you used it.

What's interesting is that on my system, I don't even have a C: drive (my boot partition is F:), and neither UVS 7, 8, or 9 have had an problems. Is anyone else able to reproduce this?

Torsten,
My VS9 defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\John\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\9.0\VIDEO_TS\ for the DVD folders.

Maybe, instead of hard-wired to C:, it is "soft-wired" to wherever your Docs & Settings are located. How is that set?

Like Torsten, my VS ( (and 7 and 8) seemed to 'stick' to the set working folders. The only difference I can see in VS 9 is that you have to also set the working folder in the burning module apart from also doing it in File > Preferences. This is not done by simply setting the working folder in the spots where you want to save 'DVD Folders' or an ISO/image File, but within the first of the two little icons in the bottom left of the burning module screen. The first item in the drop down menu is another 'Preferences', and within that you can specify your working folder for burns (or other processes classified as burns, such as Video_TS folders or ISO images).

Hi all

Ken Barry & bgregor seems to have hit the nail on the head with this one.

There seems to be two issues.

Setting the locations for creating DVD Folders, and Disc image files have always defaulted to the C: drive. ( I agree that this is a pain and should default to the last folder set)
But we are talking Working Folder.

Unlike the previous versions the temp folder required for burning is set via the Burner Window ‘Settings and Options button Atl + G’
We are talking about the panel that shows the Required / Available Space.
This location has normally been fixed by setting the working folder from File / Preferences.

Not any more Not With Version 9

Using the Settings and Options button Atl + G’ and selecting ‘preferences’ access further options,
One of which is the Working Folder.
Selecting a Working folder from here does not change the Edit Working Folder set from File / Preferences.

I wonder why they have done this??????????
