Every single new release Blu-Ray disk I have attempted to play using WinDVD has failed. Every older release plays absolutely perfectly.
Wall-E won't play on my system .. Hangs on chapter 5 but doesn't give any error message becasue Corel has made sure there are no error messages or blue screen becasue then customers might feel they should have tech support. With silent failure it looks like it's the disks fault.
WinDVDs tech support is "If the program starts up and doesn't generate error messages then there is no support for issues with disks UNLESS you pay.
Sooooo ... why whould every single Blu-ray I own play absolutely flawlessly every single time but every time I buy or rent a new release it fails? Simple ..... COPY PROTECTION. Wall-E must have some new protection that is silently crashing WinDVD.
Blu-Ray is the worst experience I have ever had with any tech ever.
I bypass the pirated crap and pork out 32.00$ plus tax for Wall-E from HMV. It plays the $%^$ trailers and but not the movie.
It is not the first time .... every single time I buy or rent a new release movie it fails.
This is BOTH Corel's fault and the Blu-Ray standards fault and the $$%^ movie piraters fault.
Suprise Suprise ... Wall-E doesn't play

How Corel should handle compatability ... but never will
First, Corel should be buying every single major release to test for compatability and they should know if it is going to work or not the day of release or earlier. Wall-E certainly quailifies as a that is big enough.
Second, when the new release movie I just bought fails to play, it WinDVD should automatically contact Corel and check their database to determine if this disk is currently compatable. If it is not in the database yet a message should tell me that and Corel should get the DVD for testing ASAP
Corel should maintain a listing of compatable major titles and list the incompatable ones and when their issues expect to be resolved.
I bought Wall-E Blue-ray and it won't play ... no error messages no nothing and there is absolutely no clear path from Corel about how I can resolve this. When will it play? Who knows? Is it a bad disk? Has something new I installed caused a conflict? Is my WinDVD install corrupted? Who Knows? When will the next patch come out? Who knows?
Blu-Ray is the most poorly supported product in my memory. Cyberlink certainly isn't any better.
Corel just isn't positioned to support its own product and Blu-ray will change every month becasue it is going to probably be hacked every month. What is Corels business plan with regards to this?

Looks like people with Blu-ray players have same issue too
What a sad state of affairs
Looking into this issue, it looks like I could rip Wall-E using the right software and play it today with AnyDVD ..... they have a special patch released close to the Wall-E release date that seems to work. May not work with Blu-Ray though
Why is it that semi-hackers are giving better tech support than Corel which is a Blu-Ray certified software developer.
So here I am, someone willing to pay 32.00$ for a very well crafted movie when I coulds have paid 5.00$ or whatever for pirated crap. I try to play the movie and it only plays the $%^%#^ trailers. I don't download AnyDVD or the likes to fix the problem as I don't want that stuff on my system. A pretty dedicated consumer I would think ....
And I am totally being ^%&^%&^$ over by copy protection that ensures that every new release movie I buy doesn't play.
So if a dedicated consumer that hates piracy feels %^&$&^% over ..... what hope is there for Blu-ray in it's current form? No hope whatsoever, except for the PS3. If I could get my money back for my Blu-ray drive and the movies I bought I would do it in an instant. Now I am stuck with it but I will never ever buy a new release movie again and I won't invest another cent in another software DVD player until Blu-ray get its act together and it probably won't ......... Seem like every producer was its own flavour of Blu-ray as evidenced by the subtle and different glitches associated with each. What kind of standard is that? Also. , who wants all that front end crap when the movie doesn't even play?
Jason at Arcsoft admits that a frequent patching may be required to play current movies. Corel pretends the problem doesn't exist ..... Cyberlink wasn't any better last time I dealt with them.

Update ..... almost one month later
No resolution to the Wall-E won't play issue.
Corel Email support passed the buck
Corel Telephone support were helpful and took my Email address but had no helpful info other than it is probably not a BD live problem.
One user reported that Vista/Nvidia with WinDVD9 played Wall-E (I have XP/Nvidia)
Jumped through hoops and managed to get the trial version of Arcsoft TMT and it played Wall-E perfectly so it's probably not my system.
All my older Blu-rays play perfectly
BAsically the only thing I haven't done is completely uninstall both my firewall and AV during the WinDVD install (I have tried Firewall uninstalled and AV disabled)
The issue is either BD+ or BD-live IMO

Final Update Wall-E won't play
It's Jan 15 2009 and Wall-E still won't play on my system. Been waiting more than 2 months. No end in sight
I gave phone support my email but haven't heard anything .......
Arcsoft TMT plays Wall-E on my system perfectly.
I would buy TMT but at this point I am too reluctant to buy any Blu-rays because of the I don't want to feel the burn of paying for a disk and not being able to play it. In fact HMV refused to allow me to exchange my Wall-E Blu-Ray for a regular DVD (direct swap at my loss). So I was literally stuck with it.
Few other industries treats consumers so badly. Could you imagine walking into a car dealership. They would say "No you can't get in the car and you certainly can't drive it, but you can look at it". If you buy it and it doesn't run, we won't fix it and we will only give you another one that also doesn't work" "And no you can't have your money back but maybe if you are lucky it will work some time in the future".
Thats Blu-Ray

Credit where it is due, with the update 9.0B014.132-74098.DVD9.Plus.BD.from.9.0B014.48.UP.iUpgrade Wall-E plays perfectly on my system .....
Actually it now plays it even better than Arcsoft TMT which has a few little glitches, and subjectively WinDVD looks a little better than Ardsoft too
BUT it took 5 months which is a little excessive
