HG-10 Camcorder saves files as M2t?

I'm thinking of getting a more powerful video editting software and want to make sure it will recognize the HG-10 files. Should I be looking for the .m2t format?

Movie Factory SE seems to be a good basic tool, but I plan on getting pretty heavy into video editting.
