Problem Generating .wmv Widescreen Files

Post by Murphy999 »

Sorry, I¡¦m the newbie with my head on fire today. :D Thanks Ken for helping me get registered. :D

I¡¦m having a problem generating widescreen (16:9) .wmv files. I have created widescreen .wmv files many times in the past using VideoStudio 11.0.0157.0 Plus. I can still generate HD widescreen files, but they are extremely large files and I really need .wmv files.

Basically all I was doing was:

Download my videos from my camera to my computer
Open VideoStudio
Click Video Studio Editor with the ¡§16:9¡¨ checked
Edit my videos
Click the ¡§Share¡¨ tab
Click ¡§Share Video Online¡¨
Click ¡§Best Quality (*.wmv)¡¨

I tried reloading VideoStudio, but that didn¡¦t help. I¡¦m sure it¡¦s something that I¡¦m doing wrong, but I have spent three nights trying to figure it out with no success. It¡¦s really driving me a bit crazy since I had no trouble doing this in the past.

Any help is appreciated,
Brad

After you click the Share tab, check the Output properties and post them here?

I will do that when I get back home this evening, but I don't recall seeing something called "Output Properties", but I will look.

After reading my first post, I don't think I completely described what happens. It creates a .wmv file, but it's 4:3, not 16:9 (widescreen).

Thanks,
Brad

There is nothing called Output properties, but when you go to the burn module (Share>Create Disc) you can click on the cogwheel icon for the properties. Not sure of the procedure for the templates.

I would like to know the properties of the "Best Quality WMV" file you are making. You should be able to view these, but maybe the pre-made templates don't allow you to (don't have VS at this computer).

Also, have you installed Windows Media Encoder 9 series, which is required to give you the best quality high definition WMV profiles.

OK, when I start to create a Best Quality .wmv file, a little properties window pops up with this info:

Windows Media Video
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead_Neptune_BestQuality

I tried the create disk and clicked on the cog wheel and saw the line where you can specify 4:3 or 16:9. I don't see an option like that for the wmv files.

Thanks,
Brad

I checked and I do already have Windows Media Encoder 9 series installed.

In your first post, you made passing reference to high definition files. With the wmv files, are you wanting to produce high def files? If so, the Neptune Best Quality setting will not be correct. If you have WME 9, then you should see a series of WMV HD Profiles below the Neptune ones... And these have the correct widescreen dimensions (e.g. 1440 x 1080), whereas the Neptune one is 640 x 480.

I tried making the HD files and the software worked just fine for that. The problem was that the HD files were so big that I couldn¡¦t up load them.

What I want are widescreen videos, but not HD videos. I had no problem generating widescreen wmv files with VS until last week. Then when tried to use the same share command ¡§best quality wmv¡¨, I started getting 4:3 files instead of 16:9 files.

But I have made some progress. I have been using the Share ¡V Create Video ¡V Custom ¡V Save as Windows Media Video ¡V Options ¡V Profile ¡V Neptune Best Quality ¡V Display Aspect Ratio = 16:9 ¡V OK ¡V Save.

That seems to work. I get a wmv file that appears 16:9 and its not a huge file size.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I¡¦m glad I found this forum. It¡¦s been a big help and I¡¦m sure I will learn a lot more from it.

When I click on * Create Video File > WMV 720 HD * it's 16x9. When I click on WMV 1080 it's 4:3. Why isn't the 1080 version widescreen?

Hi Boxy

I think it has something to do with your project frame size, and or video frame sizes.
Normally non square pixel rendering is used.

Change the project properties to ‘compression Mpeg 2’ using 24 bits, 1920 x 1080 frame size
This size is 16:9 ratio.

Your rendered HD 1080 WMV should be widescreen.
