Has anyone been able to capture/extract video from a DVD-R in VideoStudio Pro X2?

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open VS Pro X2
2. Go into the Editor
3. Click on "1 Capture"
4. Click on "Import Digital Media"

Right after clicking on "Import Digital Media", I get the crash message:

"Corel VideoStudio encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience..."


This happens every time in X2. 11.5 worked fine.

FWIW, I just opened my X2, having already inserted a non-copyright DVD in the drive. I followed your work flow. As it does in VS11.5+, I got a screen asking if I wanted to import from folder or just Import. I selected the latter. A new screen appears saying it is parsing the contents of the disc. After that I get the usual directory tree of the DVD allowing me to choose what I want.

I also used my method (which is just to right click in the library window or timeline, and select 'Insert Digitial Media') and it did exactly the same thing.

So unfortunately, I am unable to to reproduce your problem.

Yes, I installed the DirectX 9.x November release.

Looks like I solved the problem...

1. VS 11.5 Ultimate was already installed
2. Installed VS Pro X2
3. Uninstalled 11.5
--> "Import Digital Media" crashes in X2
4. Re-installed 11.5
--> "Import DVD" in 11.5 does not crash but does not provide a list of DVD Drives to choose from
--> "Import Digital Media" in X2 does not crash but does not provide a list of DVD Drives to choose from
5. Uninstalled 11.5
--> "Import Digital Media" crashes in X2
6. Uninstalled X2 (no VS installed on the system)
7. Did a clean install of VS Pro X2 without any other versions of VS
--> "Import Digital Media" works as intended

So for me, I had to completely remove VideoStudio (all versions) prior to installing X2 to make the "Import Digital Media" function work.

I have not and will not test to see if X2's digital media import still works if VS 11.5 is installed.

Curious. I have VS10+, 11.5+ and X2 all installed on this one computer, and all work fine... But I am glad that at least you got one of them working!!!

..I too have multiple versions installed... 11.5+ and X2. When I installed X2, I was 1/2 expecting it to upgrade, rather than do a parallel install. In general X2 seems to behave pretty well for me (there's the exception of the automusic issue I posted earlier today).

The only issue I had with the import was that, for whatever reason (and mentioned in another thread), the import dialogue only displayed some of the available clips! I found, however, that I could just drag-n-drop the .MTS files direct into the library, and I was away

Thanks for all of the replies. It's good to know that X2 works with other VS versions installed.

I don't know why my setup didn't work, but at least it's working now. I am not going to tempt fate so I am going to leave my setup as is.

For the record, I had exactly the same experience as pnuth. On my system (Vista Business) this feature only works with X2 by itself, having been installed after 11.5 was uninstalled (i.e. my experience matches yours, step by step). Thanks very much for finding and reporting the solution!

I have the same problem, install x2 pro with 11.5 active then uninstalled 11.5 and as soon as I click on capture video files it crashes. I will try uninstalling the entire thing, run cc cleaner and then start over with x2 and hope it works.

I would have preferred that x2 pro simply upgraded 11.5 and left my library in tact rather than have 2 instances of VS on the machine but that's just me.

I quite agree: why wasn't it designed as a simple upgrade? It's not as if X2 is a particularly big advance on 11.5, after all. As you say, it's a real nuisance to have to set the new version up again from scratch.

They've always been stand alone installs, at least since my version 6.

If you have custom libraries simply copy them (to say, your desktop) then paste them into the appropriate folders in the new version.

As a footnote, VS11/11.5+ installs in a sub-folder in a Ulead Systems main folder. VS12, however, installs in a completely new folder under 'Corel'.

Well everything is working fine now

removed 11.5,
ran cc cleaner,
uninstalled x2,
ran cc cleaner,
reinstalled x2.

I didn't have a custom library in 11.5 but I had a boatload of clips stored in the basic library that I now have to reload. At least I was able to open prior 11.5 projects without issue!

Successfully created, uploaded a clip to YouTube, started with an AVHD file, edited, shared to YouTube. Worked great. Just need to test an AVCHD burn with x2.
