Vista System hang-ups

I have just upgraded my hardware and have installed Video Studio 11.5.
However I when I try to capture from my VCR through a TV Tuner card, (Fusion DVB-T) the system just hangs up and nothing happens.
This occurs when I open up the Capture Tab and click on "Capture Video", the whole system just hangs up and nothing happens.
I have to reboot the system to clear the hang up and can never get to nominate the video capture source etc.
As it is new system, I can't restore a previous workpoint in Vista
I have 4Gb RAM, Intel core 2 duo 2.53GHz with heaps of Gb available, so capacity should be OK.
Can anyone please advise me on this??

We usually suggest you use the software which came with the capture card, rather than VS. I happen to have a Dvico Fusion dual tuner card myself, and I use it all the time to capture HDTV and other digital TV programs. I can get VS 12 to capture the TV programs, but find it is easier, and better, to capture using the Fusion software which came with it. I suspect you will find the same with capturing from the connected VCR. Set it to capture MQ or GQ mpeg-2/DVD. Then open the captured mpeg-2 in VS for editing.

Thanks Ken. I never had this problem in the past with earlier versions of VS and my old machine on XP. However, the quality was a bit dubious at times.
If I can't capture direct and I can't burn to DVD direct ( I have to create video files and burn later using other programs, as per the advice I have read about on this Forum, and it is only way it seems to work for me) then there must be some major incompatability between VS & Vista, or some other program.
Perhaps I should be looking at another video editing program. Is Corel addressing any of these issues in new version?
Thanks again for your help and being so prompt.
Regards

I know a lot of people say the same thing you are saying and, in a perfect world, I guess VS should be able to do everything perfectly. But it doesn't. You will find many people on this board who use numerous different apps to capture, edit, and burn their videos.
I, for one, don't use X2 to capture. I just don't like the image from the preview screen, so I use v10 to capture. I edit in X2, then burn to DVD folders. I then burn to disc using Nero, just because I like it better.

I recently bought a Kaiser Baas HD & analoge TV USB dongle...I can capture on VS through the Dongle with no problems.
I haven't tested VHS cature with it yet.
Just posting this because it's one example that seems to work fine and not a compatability problem with VS and Vista

Hi Ken
I have just got a new patch from Vorel Support that overcomes the system freeze up when selecting CAPTURE and then "Capture Source"
Here is the link.
ftp://ULMPG29G:PEYEPK69@Private.ulead.c ... OPATCH.exe
Now I can select the tuner acrd but only receive video and no audio.
(I also tried capturing through the Fusion tuner card and another capturing program (AVS4YOU) but now have the problem that I can only record video but not the audio signal.)
I have checked all the configurations OK Perhaps its in the hardware
Hope this link helps others
