I successfully created an HDV mpg2 for my HDV video project in VS11.5+. Initially, I had ghosting problems on panned white objects such as clouds with the VS11.5+ encoder which finally disappeared when I went to 30Mbps bit rate. The same problem cropped up when I then tried to create a DVD from this HDV mpg2. I tried to max out the DVD bit rate at 9800Kbps but could not get rid of the bad ghosting. I decided to use the TMPGEnc encoder (Video Encoder Express 3.1) which worked quite well. Then I brought the TMPEnc encoded DVD mpg2 file into VS11.5+ for DVD authoring. Unfortunately, VS11.5+ could not recognize any audio in the file. I know there is audio in the file because I was able to play back the file in VLC Media Player and also created a DVD with Nero Express and both times I had audio. Since Nero Express does not have as many features for DVD Authoring as VS11.5+, I would like to use VS11.5+ for creating my DVD. But I cannot get VS11.5+ to read the audio in the file. I don't know what the problem is, but here's something you can try....

Try making a separate audio file from the original HD file. Go to Share and create an audio file. (Make a 48kHz, 16-bit WAV... The least-compressed audio/video cause the least trouble!)

Then, use that WAV file along with the TMPGEnc video file to make the DVD.

(The MPEG-1 Audio layer 2 format that you're getting from TMPGEnc is not valid for your NTSC DVD. You need AC3 or LPCM audio... But, Video Studio should be able to decode and convert it.)
