I've just tried latest PowerDirector7, build 2206. It looks that their SVRT (smart render) works OK :!:

As far as I remember, the first build of PD7 was giving me GPFs. I'll give it a try again and write back.

Yes, PowerDirector 7 really does the job, but there are negative sides (at least in the trial version) I've noticed: it always recompresses video despite of the praised "smart" mode and there's no way to set the output bitrate.

yes smart render doesn't work properly in trial you need full version...

And how about setting the video bitrate?

Thanks michal_h! Looks like it's the only solution yet for those who have the distortion problem. Also PowerDirector's H264 decoder is a lot faster than that of VideoStudio and so editing is easier.

Also only PowerDirector 7 ULTRA supports AVCHD. It costs $119.95.

I tried PowerDirector 7 in late August before buying Pro X2 and found that AVCHD hybrid discs had bad pixalization in areas of small detail, such as grass, when the camera moved, even the slight movement caused by hand-holding the camcorder but not panning or zooming. The same source clips rendered by Pro X2 did not have this problem.

Has anyone found that newer versions of PD7 have solved this problem?

It was exactly because you TRIED, smart render doesn't work as should in the trial version and pixelization was caused by re-encoding to a lower bitrate (as I remember it's about ~13000 kbps and cannot be changed). I've just bought PowerDirector 7 Ultra and now downloading it, once it's done I'll give it some tests and write back does it really do the job without pixelizations and other bad things.

Yes, it was the trial version (v.1820 if I recall correctly). I'll look forward to the results of your tests with the latest purchased version.

If re-encoding in PD7 causes the pixalization problem, that would concern me because there are situations I have encountered where re-encoding is necessary, for example, when applying lighting/color correction to clips.

According to other users Sony Vegas Pro also supports smartrendering and should work fine too.

I made only small test with PD7 but if I insert two clips on the timeline one transition and start creating file using SVRT it looks like SVRT works only for the first clip (fast rendering), the transition is rendered slower as I expected but the second clip is rendered with the same speed as transition - it should be rendered with the same speed as first clip. Could you confirm it?

Plenty of info on the Cyberlink forum about AVCHD rendering, SVRT problems and Canon HF100.

Essentially, even the updated 2206 build still has problems with rendering in AVCHD. I use PD and render my AVCHD to BluRay format to work around the problem.
