VS11+. In a hurry to save videos recorded on mini DVD Ram discs in my Hitachi video camera as my wife and I left for month long vacation in Europe, I downloaded several double sided RAM discs into one LOOOOOOOOONG timeline. I have read all through my manual and searched all through the site to no success.

Can anyone tell me how to create video files in the library using the files saved on my computer that are all accessible via the time line. Would appreciate any ideas at all.

It is nice to know VS worked like a dream as it has always and everything is safely stored on my hard drive. Now if I had just saved to the library like I intended.

Drag them from the time line to the library? I find it hard to understand from your question what you want to accomplish.

The library does not hold files as such. It holds thumbnails of files, and the files themselves can be anywhere on the computer, including external drives.

So if you want to create real files, you simply cut up your one big file into the pieces you want using the scissors icon to the bottom right of the preview screen. Then highlight each piece in turn, and select Clip > Save Trimmed Video. This will create a new file for that piece which will be saved in your designated working folder. It will also place a thumbnail for that file in the library pane. As I say, do that for all the pieces you cut the one file into, and you will have the same number of thumbnails in the library window, and the same number of new files in the working directory.

Note that your original single big file will remain as it, so you could delete that at this stage if you need to save space.

Note also that if you don't use Save Trimmed Video, and simply cut the original file into bits, the new smaller clips in the timeline are only virtual i.e. they are not real files. You can drag each new virtual clip into the library window where it will become a thumbnail. But you cannot delete the original file after doing this or else all the virtual files will then disappear.
