I'm using VIdeoStudio Pro X2, and have been able to utilize overlays, titles, motion control, and picture filters with no problem. I can also utilize dissolves and other simple transitions easily. However, when I try to use a 3D or other fancy transition - I run into major problems. Everything freezes up and then I get an error message to the effect that there is some sort of communication problem with Microsot Windows, and an offer to report the problem. Once I choose to report or not to report, VideoStudio shuts down.
Wondering if anyone out there has run into a similar situation or possibly has a solution.

Hi
I used the trial version and found that a lot of transitions froze the program with a similar report.
I had assumed that the problem was my pc, as I have had a lot of trouble just lately.
It¡¦s a bit old now and a new pc is probably required.
I also ran the trial on a new laptop with no problems, which seems to confirm my suspicions regarding my other pc.
I seem to recall that the report mentioned either the individual transition or ¡¥vfx32.dll¡¦
The trial version has run its course and no longer available so I cannot check.
Selecting some transitions in the library caused my program to crash.
X2 uses animated transitions in the library, that is when selected they automatically play in the preview screen, these can be disabled from File--Preferences.
Unfortunately I never did disable them to check the result.
Using the ¡¥Default transition effect¡¦ ¡¥random¡¦ allowed the bad transitions to be inserted to the timeline, only to freeze when you tried to edit or play that particular section.
Sorry I cannot be more helpful.
But would advice you to update DirextX to the latest version. If you feel that you have the latest, then installing again will change some files even though the version number does not change. ( so I have been informed ) and it has been beneficial.
Do a search on the forum for more info on DirectX.
Good luck

I am in the middle of a project, so I thought I would see if I could recreate your problem. I double-clicked on each and every one of the 3D and Album transitions to insert them into my project. I then played my project and it played back perfectly without any problems from any of the transitions. Sorry.
You might want to give Trevor's DirectX idea a try, as that solves a lot of "preview" issues.

Crashing Effects
Oddly enough, I'm able to use these effects with the older VideoStudio 11. Unfortunately, VideoStudio 11 will not open a time line created with Pro X2.
I tried to download the latest version of Direct X, but ran into problems there, too. I got an error message saying that the website was unable to download the program to my computer.
I'm not having a good day.

Well, I am mystified why they don't work for you in X2. But it is startling that the DirectX update will also not work, which suggests something more serious might be wrong with your computer as a whole...
However, if you want to process your X2 project in VS11, then go to File > Save As, and when you are asked to give a new name to the project, in the line below, it will be saying that it will save as a Corel Video Studio 12 Project. That, however, has a drop-down arrow to the right. And when you click that, you will see that you can also save the project in VS 11 and 10 format. Save it in VS11 format. Then you should be able to open it in VS 11, though if you used any of the things that were only introduced in X2, they will not open in VS11 and you may have to re-do those parts.

I was finally able to find the right website to download the latest DirectX, but it didn't help. Thanks for the info on opening up XPro projects with VideoStudio 11. I'm still hopeful that I'll be able to find a way to use XPro with all its effects.
