How new is this X2 product?

I just found out about VS X2 Pro in an email from Corel with an upgrade price offer. I usually spring for these upgrades, but X2 sounds like some big changes from my current 11+.

Is this just a typical upgrade from VS 11+ with new features, or is it a major change (rewrite) all the way? That is, when I start it up will I see a familiar UIF, or something altogether new and more Corel-like?

I don't think you could call it a major re-write. That being said, it certainly contains a significant number of improvements. The GUI also has a different look (particularly in its colour!) and you can re-size the preview window, and a few other tricks. In my opinion, and that of quite a few others here, it is certainly worth the price of the upgrade.

On the downside, it also seems to have carried over some of the shortcomings apparent in VS11+/11.5+, but in my personal view, these are relatively minor. If you are an AVCHD user, though, don't expect any miracles.

No, it will still be very familiar to you. It has, IMHO, some very nice features that made me upgrade from v10+ (I never felt v11 was worth the upgrade). Why not download the trial and decide for yourself?

Not much difference between 11+ and X2 for AVCHD editing as far as I can tell. (only used X2 trial)

X2 definitely gets my vote for the upgrade. Cool new stuff and I love the new GUI color. I vote "YES" for me and I had just upgraded to 11.5+ prior to the release of X2.

When I first upgrade to X2, I wondered what I'd spent my money on as apart from the colour (which I don't give a monkey's about) it seemed to be exactly the same.

Having started using it though,l found there are lots of areas they've tidied up, a few nice new features, improved reliability (for me anyway), and in general a lot of the frustration I was having with 11+ has evaporated.

In fact, the only thing that really made me doubt the cost of the upgrade is the fact that (when buying from the Corel web site) us poor souls in the UK get hammered for £59, whereas US purchasors can get the upgrade for $59

That's because we live in God's country, boy! We are the chosen people!

(I'm still on 11.5, but I like the ability to use transitions on the overlay timeline in X2)

...transitions in overlays is far more powerful than I'd originally given it credit for.

You can cross-fade / overlap on the audio track too which, whilst it's not quite the same as having more audio tracks, goes a long way towards it.

I keep finding little bits and wondering if they're new, or if I just missed them in VS11.5+ !?!

One of the features I like best is the ability to fade in a clip on an overlay track that has been chroma-keyed. Could not do that in previous versions so I always had to do an intermediate render.
