Anone using New Blue Cartoonr with Pro X2?

Post by dalemccl »

Has anyone successfully installed the New Blue Cartoonr filter for use with Pro X2?

I have installed it, but it doesn't show up on the Pro X2 menus, even though the .vft file is in the Pro X2 vft folder.

I have, and it certainly works and works well! As you may be aware, X2 also contains a number of other New Blue filters, which are great too. There seems to be one quirk with the Cartoon filter, at least on my system. When you choose Filter, you get a drop down menu with the filters grouped into types. The top is 'All', but when you select that, the Cartoon filter does not show up, though the other New Blue effects do. However, if you look at the bottom of the drop down filter menu, you will see (or should see  ) a separate category of New Blue Free Effects, which is what I open to apply the cartoon filter.

Mine doesn't show up anywhere. No "Free New Blue Effects" on the menu.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Cartooner but it didn't help. I selected Corel/Ulead when installing (since it will install for several NLE's)

I am almost certain it showed up when I first installed it several weeks ago. Then it disappeared and I can't get it back.

I might try uninstalling/reinstalling Pro X2 then installing Cartoonr again.

I confess I never installed it 'properly' from the New Blue site. I simply copied the relevant .vft file from my VS11.5+ directory and inserted it in the X2 .vft folder. Then when I started up X2 again, it went through a visible process of taking account of a new file/plug-in, and brought up the same New Blue splash screen when I first installed it on VS11.5+. Then, when I clicked out of that splash screen, the filter was there and working as described above. But my perhaps unorthodox installation may explain why it does not show in the ALL folder...

Have you tried removing the .vft file, then rebooting, then restarting X2. Then close it and reinstall the vft file?

I hadn't rebooted after removing the .vft file so I just tried that and still nothing. I also went through the registry and removed references to New Blue Free filter before re-installing, since the uninstall left traces of the filter in the registry.

Thanks for trying to help though. I guess I'll give up on it for now. It looked like a fun filter to play around with.

I just checked mine and it is there, just as Ken stated. And all I did was copy the vft file from v10 to v12.

I just installed VS12 and the patch (12.0.98.1.pro), and the NewBlue free Cartoonr didn't work for me either. It turned my clip black, and didn't allow me to modify the filter parameters. After playing around, this is what I did to get it to work. The VS12 files were installed in Program Files/Corel... and Cartoonr files were installed in Program Files/NewBlue... - both of these were the defaults.

The Cartoonr.vft file had been copied into the Corel...vft_plug folder by the FreeEffects install program. There were also 3 .dll's in the NewBlue folder that did not get copied into the ...vft_plug folder (FreeEffectsULead.dll, NBCustomUI.dll, and Resources.dll). The last two .dll's were already in the ...vft_plug folder, but had different file sizes. So, I renamed those two .dll's to .dll.SAVED (just in case :-), then copied the 3 .dll's from the NewBlue folder into the vft_plug folder.

This fixed the problem for me. I haven't tried extensive testing, but I did apply the filter to a couple of clips, change the parameters, etc.

Hope that helps,
ABe.

Thanks ABe. I just tried what worked for you, but no-go here. My problem is that Cartoonr doesn't even appear on the effects menu. It still doesn't, even after copying the 3 dll's to the Corel vft_plug folder.

Not a big problem, but it would be fun to play around with Cartoonr if I could get it to show up on the menu.
