Smart render VS8 -- How do you turn it off??

Post by kbw »

I have read many posts regarding out of sync (OOS) audio and video and some of those replies recommend turning off "smart render." I have done a search in the help files in VS8 and the only connection to smart render is in the previewing of the timeline, being instant playback versus high quality playback. I have it set to "instant playback." I don't see any checkbox for "smart render" on any of the setting pages.

I am having the OOS problem as are many other users and the suggestions I have received from tech support have not worked. To make matters worse, I have tried a totally different DVD rendering piece of software and had the same OOS results which tells me it may not be Video Studio at all, but the operating system. I am runnign XP Pro SP2 on my main machine and XP home on another and both give bad resluts.

Would there be any connection to DirectX?

Since this problem started, I just create the Video_ts files without actually burning the DVD and then test the rendered files in Power DVD to avoid geting another coaster.

I'm not at home right now so this may be a little off as I can't look it up, but in VS9 I learned to turn off smart render when using "create video file". When you click on "create video file" it gives you an options button. If you click on the options button it gives you some tabs, and under one of them you can turn off smart render.

It helped me immediately . . . before turning off smart render the video was screwed up twelve ways from Sunday.

Thanks for the reply. However, I am not using the "create video file" function, but the share function and just creating the folders to preview the final DVD files. VS creates an .mpg file in the "convert" folder when it complies for a DVD. Even thought the DVD files are out of sync, the new .mpg file is fine. Still don't understand short of totally uninstalling VS8 and re-installing without any update patches. I am wondering if the updates added some bad .dll files that are global to my system and affect my other authoring software that has the same problem now.

If I turn of smart render as you suggested, will that change the actual rendering process for compiling the DVD files even thought it isn't in the same drop down menu?
