UPDATE:
I've determined this is a program bug. I have replicated this problem on two other pc's. All have different video cards: EN8600GT (mine), ATI 1150, Intel 82845G.
Here's how you can crash PSP X2:
Pull up a picture. Select the scratch remover tool. The default setting is 20 pixels wide; you can use any setting. Now use the tool. Pull it to any length you want. It will work fine, UNLESS you only pull it one or two pixels in length. Then the program shuts down.
Now you may wonder, why use this tool for such a small area. Well, I've used it extensively in PSP 8 in just such a manner. It's great for large and small areas alike, because you don't have to keep switching tools. Now, anytime I use it, I'm on pins and needles, afraid my finger will slip off the mouse button and cause program failure (which is exactly what happened yesterday when I was almost done with a photo restoration...had to start all over).
ORIGINAL POST:
I have been using PSP 8 for years. For whatever reason, I decided maybe it's time to upgrade. I uninstalled PSP 8 and downloaded the trial version of PSP X2. I really like the look and some of the improvements (i.e., red-eye removal tool).
But every time I try to use my favorite tool, Scratch Remover, within a couple of minutes the program shuts down with the message "Paint Shop Pro X2 has encountered a problem and needs to close." Windows event viewer shows an application error with the description "Faulting application corel paint shop pro photo.exe, version 12.5.0.0, faulting module toolstandard.dll, version 12.5.0.0, fault address 0x000449da."
I uninstalled it (using the method provided by Corel), downloaded a fresh copy (thinking maybe the first one was somehow corrupted), re-installed...same result.
I am immersed in a multi-year project of scanning and cleaning up photos. Thought maybe there was a conflict with my scanner, so I turned it off after scanning, tried scratch remover...no dice. Even tried it on existing digital photos with same result.
I've updated every driver I possibly could; even got a new video card (the old one was an Asus Extreme AX300SE/TD 128mb). In addition to the system info shown in my profile, I have:
Scanner: CanoScan 8600F
DVD/CD burner: Plextor PX 760A ATAPI
Mitsumi Floppy with 7 in 1 Card Reader
I would really like to use this new version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (BTW, I did email Corel support about this last week, but haven't received a reply from them).
