UFO files: can't copy, cut, move or delete them

Post by nkzz »

PhotoImpact X3
Vista Home Premium 32

Upon attempting to copy, cut, move or delete UFO files, Vista sits there and churns away, trying to calculate how much time to complete... but never performs the operation. Using a program called Unlocker, it shows that Explorer has "locked" the UFO files... and one by one, after many clicks, Unlocker unlocks the files, thus permitting completion of the operation... a tedious process for a large folder with many files. This has been mentioned before in the Forum but I have not seen an X3 solution. Any advice?

I've not seen this problem with PIX3. I don't seem to have any problem deleting .ufo files. I'm not sure this will have any affect, try disabling Windows Defender. It may think you're a harmful program trying to delete files.

Thanks for the input, but the issue doesn't change with Defender turned off. It was mentioned here in a v12 thread... http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=32316... and apparently solved with a v12 patch, but my issue is with x3. The program that I referred to... Unlocker... indicates that there is "process" that is "locking" the UFO file. The process is "explorer.exe". When I tell Unlocker to kill the process and copy, move or delete the file, it succeeds. So the problem seems to be at the level of Windows Explorer and possibly file associations and pertinent registry entries. I believe it has existed ever since I installed x3. Does Ulead/Corel ever read these forums?

I noticed this morning that I still have PhotoImpact version 10 installed on my computer. On a hunch, I uninstalled it... and the problem was solved. Who knew?

Hello, I have had the same problem - unable to copy, delete or view ufo files.

Reading this thread, I am posting upi12_patch download link if anyone else is suffering the same problem.

It worked for me :D

Problem :
On Vista, opening an .ufo file will result in a freeze of Photoshop X3, clicking on the file will freeze the windows explorer too. Impossible to move, delete or access the file.

Cause:
Apparently, bug known in PI 12. The install of PI X3 does not remove the old version and Vista is still relying on some of the PI12 components !

Solution:
Check the programs installed through your control panel, uninstall photoimpact 12 and reboot.
